Tyler nodded. “I appreciate you squeezing me in.” He walked to the door.

“Call me when you get back, Tyler. We only just got started today, I’d really like to talk more.” She paused. “You mentioned you weren’t sleeping?”

Tyler stopped short of opening the door. “Yeah, I’ve had a few rough nights, but you’re right. Pills are not the answer. I can see that now. I’m not sure how long I’ll be gone, but I will call when I’m back. Maybe it is time to talk.”

Chapter 7

Tyler got in his jeep and gunned it back to the Farm. Hopefully, they weren’t leaving straight away. He really needed to see Mira. Try to talk to her and explain. Walking in, he saw the team gathered around Bertha. Sam was on screen from the San Diego FBI field office, with Special Agent Dale Sanchez. Dale and Sam were old friends and the team had worked with Dale before.

“Sam, we’re all here.” Dex said as Tyler moved next to Mackie.

“Alright. I know you just got back from the assist, but Nyx spun up this morning and this is time sensitive. I’m assuming you are all good to go?”

Tyler looked over at Dex, When Dex met his gaze, he nodded.

“We’re good, Sam,” he confirmed.

“Dante Gomez is the target.” Gomez’s picture filled the screen. “This is the man behind the weapons coming from Guatemala through Mexico into the US. He’s brokering major arms deals, with weapons ending up in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.”

“We’ve been monitoring this guy for months, looking for an opportunity to take him,” Dale added.

“Why us?” Dex asked.

“Gomez is a big deal,” Dale said. “The men around him, all ex special forces, this isn’t some small-time drug cartel. These guys are professional. There is also the issue that Gomez has leverage over the chief of police. Authorities down there won’t touch him, and the US doesn’t trust them.

“US Army are in Guatemala, why wouldn’t they get him?” Ryan asked.

“They are there on a humanitarian mission. If US forces get caught in an operation, it would unsettle the relationship we have there,” Sam explained. “No one can know Americans took him. Completely dark. Zero footprint, boys. No face, no prints. You will be treated as hostile there by everyone. Authorities there are more afraid of Gomez than you.”

“Kill or capture?” Tyler asked.

“Capture,” Sam confirmed.

“Where are we taking him to?”

“Back here. Our friends at CIA will take him off your hands when you land and transport him to be questioned.”
