Chapter Twenty
FAITH
Today isthe day we leave the comfort of our isolation.
Hunter and I have remained at Coop’s place for the past few weeks while the media storm continued to build. Zee stayed as long as she could, but she had to get back to work. Coop made a sharp exit soon after, and I suspect he’s at my new apartment, shagging my roommate every which way. She hasn’t said much when we talk, but I’ve heard Coop in the background, and she forgets that his best friend is my boyfriend. That still sounds weird to me.
Hunter Vaughn is my boyfriend.
His face has healed from my dad’s attack on him. The bruises have faded, but I know his ribs are still bothering him. He’s not as vigorous as he was previously. More than once, I’ve made him groan in pain rather than pleasure. And yet, he’s insatiable, and I love it. I don’t think I’d fare well without his daily ministrations distracting me from the outside world.
While Hunter has been dealing with work behind the scenes, I’ve been going out of my mind. Before this all kicked off, my MacBook, my prized possession, shattered on the road at the airport, and I’ve been without it for weeks now—like losing a limb! Hunter bought me a new one as a gift, but it came with a catch. I wasn’t allowed to set it up until today. He knew I’d drive myself crazy combing the internet for every last horrific comment that’s been hurled at me. There’s also been a social media blackout. My phone has been strictly for texts and phone calls. Under normal circumstances, I’d tell him where he could stick his rules, but to be honest, it’s nice to give over control if only for a little while.
The upside—a lot of sex—and I mean a lot. Positions I didn’t know existed. Muscles I didn’t know I had aching from overuse. Now that I know what I’ve been missing, I’m making up for lost time! The soft hint of cologne on his skin at the end of the day, I could kiss and lick every inch of Hunter’s body for the rest of my life and not tire of the way he makes my core tighten.
Hunter’s tongue should come with a health warning:
So skilled. This tongue may kill you, but what a way to go!
He told me he was fascinated with snakes when he was younger and watched how they flick their tongue. He learned to emulate it. Holy Mother of Mary!
Putting on the final touches to my makeup, Hunter appears in the doorway, suited and booted for his interview. So many dirty options fill my mind.
“Stop looking at me like that, love. We won’t make it out the door.”
“I’m okay with that.” Wiggling my eyebrows suggestively, I bite down on my bottom lip. We had sex an hour ago before the shower, then again in the shower, but it’s still not enough. I want to drop to my knees and leave a perfect pouty ring of lipstick on his cock.
“Do we have time for a quick blow job?”
“Jesus, woman. Murphy’s outside in the car, and I’m hard as a fucking rock for you, again. What I need you to do is talk to me about anything else right now.”
“Like what? How I’d like to watch you come between my breasts.”
“Fuck me.”
“I want to, but you won’t let me.”
“The second this interview is over, you’re getting every hard inch of me, and I don’t care where. Your tits, your mouth, your ass, your tight little pussy.”
“My ass? Fuck that! It’s a one-way street back there.” Raking his hand over his jawline, mischief glints in his eyes.
“We’ll see about that. All in good time. Trust me, a few months from now, you’ll be begging for it.” How does he make my lady jay pulse with just his voice? It’s like voodoo magic.
“Okay. Changing the subject, James is going to meet us in the presidential suite of the hotel. I spoke to Coop already. The place is crawling with reporters, but he has security keeping them outside. Murphy is going to drive us to the service entrance. It’s up to you if you want to go out and let them see you after you speak with James. Obviously, I promised him an exclusive, so you’d be limited in what you say.”
Mentioning a guy I know has a thing for her definitely did the trick. My dick is officially limp. “Why did you promise him this interview?”
“I was a wreck the night I left you at the hospital. I accidently mentioned you were in surgery, and he agreed to keep it off the record if you gave him an interview. At the time, I didn’t anticipate the predicament we find ourselves in now. Seemed like an easy way to fix my blunder. Do you mind?”
“No. Someone was going to get this interview. It may as well be him.”
Grabbing my bag, I steel myself for the day ahead. This is going to be brutal, no two ways about it.

My stomach is churningas we approach the hotel—a sea of reporters at the front door as we drive straight past. Pulling up at the service entrance, Coop and Zee await our arrival. I wasn’t expecting Zee to be here, and a morsel of tension leaves my shoulders at the sight of her.
Murphy instructs us to stay in place until he opens the door. He wants to ensure we make a swift entrance into the building. Hunter takes my hand in his, bringing it to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to my skin.
