Chapter Four

“Go,I’ll be fine, your cell has been ringing non-stop. Zara obviously needs you, so please, do us both a favor and see what she wants.”

His eyes narrow at me. “Saylor…,” he warns and I smile. “That smile doesn’t disarm me.”

I laugh. “That’s not what you said last night.” He scowls at me, “Or this morning.” The morning sickness hit once again this morning. I woke up to the smell of bacon, I’ve never sprinted so quickly to get to the bathroom. I heard Everett’s chuckle follow me, he soon stopped when he heard me vomiting. Thankfully, it didn’t last as long as it has been and by the time mid-morning came, I was feeling better.

“Saylor, I don’t want you to get upset.” He’s like a broken record.

I take a deep breath, I know that he’s only trying to help. He’s worried about me, about the baby, he doesn’t have any reason to. “I’ll be fine and if not, I’ll call you.” I climb out of the car, not wanting to argue with him anymore over this.

He follows me out of the car, his arms wrapping around my waist and he pulls me into his body. His warm breath hot against my neck. “I’m sorry, Say, I’m not used to feeling this way. I’ve never had to worry about anyone else before and certainly not two people.”

He has a way with words. “Everett,” I say softly, my fingers gently caressing his face as I look up at him. “We’re all getting used to this. It’s going to be fine.”

He leans down, kisses me, and his arms tighten around my waist. I feel his cock beneath his pants and I can’t help but press against it. This man makes me feel amazing whenever I’m around him. Being here, in his arms is sheer happiness. The kiss deepens as he sweeps his tongue into my mouth.

“Christ,” he growls, pulling away from me. “I’m addicted to you, Say. Whenever I’m around you, I want to taste you.”

Heat rises in my checks. “Ev--” I’m cut off by the ringing of his cell.

“Barrett,” he answers gruffly. I watch as his eyes narrow. “Zara…” He sneers and I feel bad for her, having to deal with an angry Everett isn’t the greatest. “Why are you calling me? I told you I’d be there soon. Is the office on fire?”

I bite my lip so that I don’t laugh, he’s never been so rude to me, even when he was ignoring me, he was an ass but never like this. “Zara, what the hell am I paying you for? Just fix it.” He ends the call, a heavy sigh escapes him.

“Everything okay?”

He glances at me. “No, she’s somehow managed to delete all the appointments from the calendar and has no idea how to get it back.”

I shake my head, that woman has no clue as to what she’s doing. “Go!” I instruct him. “You need to sort that out. I’ll be in this afternoon,” I promise him.

“I’ll have Stanton drive you.”

I roll my eyes at the mention of his personal driver. “I’m capable of taking the subway.”

His eyes narrow. “Can we not argue about every little thing?”

“We’re not arguing, I’m merely stating that you don’t need to send a driver for me.”

His jaw clenches. “Saylor, for the love of God, will you please let Stanton drive you?” He runs his hand through his hair. “Please, Saylor,” he says softly.

I give in, something I learned a while ago with Everett is to pick and choose your battles. The man has no understanding of the word compromise. “Fine, Stanton can drive me.”

“Good, just call me when you're ready and I’ll have him get you.”

I smile. “I will.” I reach up on my tiptoes and give him a chaste kiss.

“If you’re finished early, we’ll do lunch,” he tells me, opening the car door.

“Sounds good. Try not to fire anyone before I get there,” I quip and watch as his lips twitch. “Go, I’ll call you.”

“See you later, Say.” He winks. “Love you.” His voice is deep and I feel it all over, he makes my heart melt.

“Love you too,” I reply softly, the man really does have my heart and soul.

Once the car drives away, I walk up the steps to Cassie’s house. Her car’s parked out front and Cass never goes anywhere without her car.

Her dating company is thriving and Cass is sensible, she bought a property as soon as she could. It was a little run down and in need of some refurbishment but that didn’t stop Cass, she bought it and spent the next three years remodeling.
