She hadn’t eaten dinner as she had gorged herself with the delicious food her mother had sent. She had also given some of it to be distributed to the Kabali clan. She hoped they didn’t throw it away as she considered her mother’s food precious.

Where is Uma?

She had asked Uma to help talk to the demon that night as well.

Did Rumi tell the demon about the fake pregnancy?

How will the demon react?

She hadn’t seen him lose control. He was cold and unmoving. But even without losing control, he was a savage. She had seen him kill in the most brutal way.

A shiver ran through her at the thought of him directing his rage towards her.

As though she had summoned the demon by thinking of him, she saw his tall form ducking under the tent entrance before stepping inside. She wasn’t hiding in the shadows like before. She was seated by a low table by the bedding.

His grey eyes fell on her and then over the baskets with Thakvar colors were kept in the corner of the tent.

His eyes returned to her and slowly swept over her body.

Before he ripped away her clothes and threw her on the bedding, she held up her hand.

“Wait!” she snapped. “I have to talk to you.”

His face remained unmoved.

“Talk!” she said, pointing at her mouth.

His eyes lowered to her mouth.

Oh God. He probably thought she wanted him to kiss her.

She stood up from the low table and took a quick step away.

She shook her head. “Gvanni, no! We need to talk! Talk!”

Just when she thought he would ignore her rambling and get her, she heard Uma calling out from outside the tent.

“Come in!” she said desperately.

But Uma didn’t step in.

“Mams venam,” the demon commanded.

Uma came inside and looked at them both standing on opposite sides of the tent.

“Uma, tell him that my family wants me to accept this marriage. But I will consider it only if certain conditions are met!”

Uma looked hesitant before she spoke in the Kabali language while addressing him.

The demon’s expression didn’t change as he listened. When Uma stopped speaking, the demon replied.

“Math.”

Uma’s face fell.

“What did he say?” Nandini asked.

“He said no.”
