Anger erupted inside her. “But he didn’t even hear what my conditions are!” she exploded.
Uma looked sympathetic. “I… I did tell him that you want to go out of the tent and mingle with the clan people.”
“Bloody asshole.”
Uma frowned, not understanding the words.
Nandini sucked in a deep breath, realizing she couldn’t afford to show her anger towards the demon. She had to change tactics to win his trust.
“Tell him that I promise I won’t try to escape again. I can’t remain a prisoner if I am to accept him as my husband.”
Uma spoke softly to the demon. But the demon’s expression remained unchanged, and he didn’t reply.
Nandini’s stomach sank with anger and disappointment. She didn’t have to wait for Uma to translate to know the demon was outrightly refusing her condition.
Uma looked at her with sympathy that the demon hadn’t agreed.
“I’m sorry,” Uma told her softly.
“It’s okay. Thank you for helping me.”
Uma nodded.
Nandini’s heart began to race as soon as Uma left the tent.
Why isn’t the damn savage agreeing to a simple condition?
She glared at his broad back. Ignoring her presence, he had turned away to remove his clothes, preparing for the night.
She had to get to the demon somehow. She had to fight for her freedom.
Sucking in a deep breath, she took a step closer to him.
“Rudra…” she called out softly, using his name for the first time.
His movements paused.
“You are my dhani… Rudra. So, treat me like your gvanni.” She hoped she was using the right words for husband and wife.
He remained silent and continued to undress.
Her heart thudded when he turned, and his grey eyes met hers.
“Please,” she whispered and placed her hand on his chest.
She felt his muscles tense underneath, and something flashed in his eyes. She gasped when his arm wrapped around her waist, and he picked her up to carry her over to the bedding.
Dropping her on it, he lay next to her. His hard, muscled arm once again circled her waist and dragged her close, pinning her close to the heat of his body.
“Tam hums manlam mam ornayi thikri dhani…gvanni,” he commanded.
“Only if you give me freedom,” she whispered.
He remained silent.
Tears of frustration and anger filled her eyes. Just as she began losing hope that she could ever get to the demon, a thought occurred to her.
He hadn’t torn her clothes that night.
