Her face burned seeing the flash in his eyes. She knew he recalled what she promised the last time. “You won’t win,” she snapped.

His mouth twisted. “Let’s see.”

Sucking in a deep breath, she attacked him with the knife, wanting to nick his arm. But he was too fast. He caught her wrist and disarmed her easily.

“Never look at the spot where you are attacking,” he said. “Use the element of surprise. Try again.”

She took the knife. This time, she waved the knife in her hand and switched from right to left, attempting every possible way to make contact, but he caught her wrist and disarmed her before pulling her to him.

He placed the knife against her throat. “Don’t hand your weapon to your enemy,” he said against her ear.

She shivered, feeling his hot breath. She was annoyed that she was still strongly attracted even though he wasn’t interested anymore.

Letting her go, he handed her the knife again.

“Attack,” he commanded.

Angry and determined to win against him, she let out a cry and swung the knife in a series of attacks, desperate to get a chance to nick him. But she missed each time and was disarmed and held against him.

He barely seemed tired while sweat dripped her forehead as she attacked repeatedly. She even attacked from the back, which he easily deflected and caught her arm. After missing her target for what seemed to be the hundredth time, he disarmed her, pulled her to him, and held the knife against her throat once again.

She was panting heavily as he spoke next to her ear. “Do I win?” he asked.

“Yes,” she gritted.

He lowered the knife. “Now return to our room and rest,” he commanded.

Bossy demon!

By the time Nandini dragged herself back into the mansion, the sun had begun to set. She was exhausted and went straight to the master bedroom, even though she didn’t want to do as the demon commanded.

Uma bit back a smile. “You can explore the rest of the mansion tomorrow,” she said.

Nandini was determined to do that.

“I’ll bring your dinner here,” said Uma. “Meanwhile, soak in warm water. You will feel better.”

“Thanks, Uma.”

Nandini wasn’t that hungry, but she was looking forward to a warm bath, especially since the bathtub had a perfect view of the waterfall.

Uma went into the bathroom and turned on the taps. Water began gushing and falling into the black stone bathtub, filling it rapidly. Uma added herbal powders, and the entire bathroom smelled amazing.

“I’ll be back with your dinner,” said Uma before stepping out.

Thanking Uma, Nandini took off her clothes. Then, tying her hair into a knot above her head, she stepped into the huge bathtub. She groaned as she sat in the warm water, which felt heavenly.

But even though she tried to relax, her mind continued to be agitated and filled with thoughts of the demon.

Why did he want to check my fighting skills?

She didn’t want to think that he cared about whether or not she knew how to defend herself. Most likely, it was a blow to his ego that his temporary wife was kidnapped by his enemies.

He didn’t find her desirable, so he wanted to ensure his wife remained in his possession.

Egoist bastard!
