Nandini nodded.
Uma led her through a long passageway from the mansion's ground floor to the neighboring structures. One side of the passageway was open, and she could see the clan members busy with their daily chores.
Uma told her the Kabali settlement had schools, a medical clinic, training areas, horse stables, shops, temples, and hundreds of homes. Nandini was amazed that they were all concealed within the mountain range and couldn’t be seen from above.
The first structure next to the mansion was a school. It consisted of small rows of classrooms with children and their teachers inside.
Nandini smiled, seeing how tiny and adorable the children were. They wore the Kabali clan clothes.
“This is the young children’s schooling area,” Uma said with a smile. “The older children are on the other side of the mansion with a larger space for learning and training.”
Nandini remembered that Kabali children were trained to be warriors at fourteen.
She also realized that the schools were deliberately kept closer to the mansion. It was done as a precaution since many children were kidnapped a decade ago.
“Do you want to see inside the classrooms?” Uma asked.
“No, I don’t want to disturb the school session.”
Uma nodded.
They continued walking along the long passageway that connected all the structures.
“This is the medical facility,” Uma pointed. “There are other medical facilities at different locations in the north region built by Rudra’s father. All north clans can make use of them. This one is only for the Kabali clan.”
“I see.”
Rudra’s father sounded much like her father. She knew that her father had built several schools and hospitals in the Thakvar region that other clans could use.
“Oh, the warriors must be training hard today,” said Uma.
Nandini saw a Kabali man with a cut on his forehead entering the medical facility. She wondered if the demon was in the training too.
She was annoyed by the way her heart raced at the thought of her demon husband.
“Where is the training area?” she asked.
Uma smiled. “There are several training grounds. But the Kabali warriors are training at the one next to the stables. Let’s go there.”
They passed by the stables. Unlike in the encampments, the current stables were massive, with dozens of horses.
“The Kabali clan is known for having the best horses in the Singoor region. Currently, we only trade horses with other north clans. But my husband told me that Rudra plans to expand the trading outside the Singoor region.”
Nandini knew it was a good idea, but she wasn’t sure how the demon would accomplish it without proper infrastructure or contact with the rest of the world.
Maybe he plans to take the help of his mother’s family.
She knew it was possible as many of the modern things used in the Kabali mansion had come from outside.
They walked past the stables, and soon, there were sounds of clashing metal and masculine grunts. A large outdoor training area came into view. She and Uma stepped out of the passageway and stood under the shaded area to watch the training.
Although several men were fighting, her eyes immediately latched on to the demon who was in mid-fight with one of his men. They fought in a sandpit using spears and knives. And the fight seemed intense. Sparks flew as the weapons clashed while the men attacked each other with brute force.
Her breath caught in her throat as the demon blocked the oncoming blow and shoved his opponent with the spear.
The fight continued for quite a while before it stopped. The demon said something to his men, and they nodded.
Just as she wondered what he was telling them, he turned and looked directly at her. And then, he gestured with his hand for her to come.
