As soon as the thought entered her mind, she sucked in a breath.
No. No. I can’t be thinking that way.
But she did.
“When are you coming for a visit again?” Chaya Tadvi asked, placing a hand on the demon’s arm. “You must come soon.”
The burning inside her stomach grew even further.
“My wife and I will come to visit all the north clans right after the statue commissioning ceremony,” the demon replied.
The burning sensation inside her heart eased at the words, and she moved closer to the demon.
Chaya Tadvi’s dark eyes flashed, followed by a clenched jaw.
Soon, the rest of the visitors, consisting mostly of the clan heads, took their leave and rode out of the encampment.
Before she could speak to the demon, his men called him.
“Rudra, what weapons are we to pick for tomorrow?”
The demon joined his men, and she had no choice but to wait until he returned to their tent that evening.

The sun had begun to set when she began pacing inside the tent.
She felt anxious.
Where is he?
She wondered if the demon was deliberately delaying returning to the tent. He knew she had many questions that she would want answers to.
Feeling too anxious, she was just about to go looking for him when she sensed his presence.
She turned to see him at the entrance.
He watched her silently as he stepped inside. He went towards the food table and sat down.
She hurried towards the food table and sat across him. She didn’t wait until he served like he usually did. She quickly served food on both plates and placed the one with more food and meat in front of him.
His grey eyes flashed in amusement, but he began to eat.
“Why do you need weapons for tomorrow’s meeting?” she asked, trying to keep her tone casual.
When he didn’t reply right away, she was worried that something terrible had been decided.
“You can’t attack or kill anyone in the holy land!” she reminded.
The demon looked darkly amused. “I know that. But your brothers don’t.”
Her face flushed at the reminder of how her brothers shot him in the holy land while trying to rescue her.
She sucked in a deep breath. “What has been decided in the meeting with north clans?” she asked.
He took a bite and watched her. “We will state the importance of the fourth alliance and seek peace.”
The anxious knot inside her stomach relaxed a little until he continued to speak.
