“Move, you brute!” she cried out in frustration.

It took her several tries, and with the demon’s face brushing over embarrassing places on her body, she was finally able to wiggle out from under him.

She got up and shook her head to push away the lingering effects of the drug and reached for the dress she had removed the previous night.

Her face heated, seeing ash smeared on her bare chest and lower on her body where the demon’s mouth had been the previous night. Ignoring the goosebumps and anger, she wore her dress.

She then quickly went to the food tray poured water into her hand and splash it on her face. She had to be fully awake.

She hurried towards the entrance of the tent. But before she stepped out, she looked back and cast a glance at the demon who looked savage and powerful even in his sleep.

She shivered, realizing how close she had been to consummating the marriage the previous night. A part of her was terrified that the drug wouldn’t work. The demon would have then heedlessly taken her virginity, and she would have had to go along with it. She was even horrified that despite the birth control shot she had taken a month ago, the seer’s prophesy would be about the holy land tent where she would fall pregnant with the demon’s child, who would be the Kabali clan heir.

She shuddered in anger at the thought of carrying the demon’s child.

“I will never accept you as my husband!”

Uttering those words, she stepped out of the tent. The early morning desert air was cold, and she shivered. Wrapping her arms about her, she went towards the edge of the mountain. The sun was yet to rise fully, but there was enough light to see her from a distance.

She looked around to see if there was a flat place nearby where a helicopter could land. But the terrain was rocky and hilly everywhere. It was only at the bottom of the mountain where she could see some flat surface that held a large water body.

She could also see some greenery around and realized it was an oasis.

Her jerked because she had never seen an oasis before. If the demon hadn’t kidnapped her, she would have attended the temple ceremony, and then she and Rahul would have explored the desert and other attractions.

Savage demon!

She still didn’t know why exactly the demon married her. Although Uma and the seer told her that it was for the well-being of Singoor, she didn’t understand how the marriage would help prosper in a desert land with several clans.

She would have to ask her father, who would definitely have answers to all her questions.

Her heart felt tight at the thought of seeing her parents again. She couldn’t wait to hug her mother who must have been distraught by the recent events. She also would spend time with her brothers and their wives.

She was determined to return to normal again.

I’m not going to allow the demon to ruin my mental peace!

Just as she finished having that thought, she heard a familiar sound.

Her heart beat rapidly as she searched the red and orange-hued sky. Amidst the rising sun, she saw a helicopter at a distance flying towards the mountain. Even from a distance, she could see the red and gold colors of the Thakvar insignia.

She nearly collapsed on her knees in relief.

She waved her hands and watched as the helicopter came closer. Tears stung her eyes when she saw her brothers inside the helicopter. Her brother Nakul was flying it while Shivay and Rishab were next to him, waving back at her.

The helicopter hovered for a moment and then flew right above her as there was no place to land. It continued to hover, and she saw the side door open. Shivay and Rishab leaned out to look at her.

She was worried about their safety as the drop below the mountain was several hundred feet. But her brothers, who were known to take dangerous risks, didn’t seem concerned.

“Nandini!” her brother Shivay shouted. “Wait there, I’m coming to get you.”

“No!” she shouted back. “I can come up on my own!”

Shivay frowned at her words.

“Please, bhai! I want to go home to Ma soon!” she shouted. “Don’t make me wait.”

Her brother nodded.
