“No more games,” he growls, his grip tightening. “Tonight, it’s you and me.”

I swallow hard, my mouth dry. “Why?” I ask. “Why are we being taken out of the cell?”

Matias’s grip tightens. “No questions,” he growls, pulling me out without another word and leading me down the familiar dark corridor. He stops at the metal door and takes me down the tunnel toward the forest. When it opens up, he doesn’t stop moving.

I stumble beside him, my heart pounding in my ears as we venture deeper into the forest. Darkness surrounds us, and the trees loom overhead like silent sentinels.

“What’s going on, Matias?” I demand.

Matias doesn’t answer, his grip on my arm like a vise. The further we go, the more disoriented I become, the path twisting and turning until I’ve no sense of direction.

Finally, we emerge into a small clearing, and I catch sight of a sturdy-looking tree in the center.

Matias turns to me, his expression unreadable. “Climb,” he orders, gesturing to a ladder leading up to a small house nestled among the branches.

I hesitate, my legs shaking. “What is this place?”

His eyes flash with warning. “I said, no questions.” He takes a step closer, looming over me. “Now climb, or I’ll make you.”

Swallowing my fear, I ascend the ladder, my palms sweating. The tree house is simple but well-built, with a small, enclosed space at the top. As I reach the platform, Matias follows close behind, his presence suffocating.

Once inside, he bars the entrance, trapping us together. I back away, my heart thundering in my ears. “Matias,” I whisper, hating the desperation in my voice. “What are you going to do to me?”

He moves closer. “I told you, no more questions.” His hand trails his fingers down my arm, sending shivers through me. “I’ve got one night with you completely unrestricted…”

I detect the threat in his tone. “What do you mean?”

His smirk makes my stomach sink. “My boss has given you to me for the night.”

I feel the blood drain from my face as his words sink in. He has me completely at his mercy for the entire night, with no restrictions. My heart hammers against my ribs, and my mouth dries.

“Why?” I ask again, my voice barely a whisper.

Matias steps closer, backing me against the wooden wall of the treehouse. He places his hands on either side of my head, caging me in.

“No more questions, little rabbit,” he growls. His use of that nickname makes my stomach flutter. “Just be grateful I’ve got you all night before tomorrow.”

Tomorrow. The auction.

After that, who knows where I’ll end up or if I’ll ever see Matias again.

As much as he terrifies me, I’ve grown disturbingly attached to him. I hate myself for feeling that way, but I can’t deny the electric charge between us.

Matias leans in, his breath hot on my cheek. My heart hammers wildly. I want to push him away, but my limbs feel leaden.

“Please,” I whisper, my voice cracking. “I’m scared.”

He chuckles darkly. “I know you are, but not because of me. You’re scared to lose me, aren’t you?” His fingers trail down my neck. “You want me.”

I clench my jaw, determined not to give him the satisfaction of a response, but the heat pooling in my core betrays me.

Matias presses his body against mine. I gasp at the contact, my nerves lighting up despite myself. He brings his lips to my ear. “Admit it,” he growls. “You’re mine.”

My breath comes in ragged gasps.

Who the fuck cares anyway?

Tomorrow, I’ll never see him again.
