Barron nodded and jumped to his feet. Though Brandt was his best friend, he was also his Alpha so he wasn’t going to refuse him.

As they walked away from the family groups Brandt and Barron gave the appearance they were just strolling, but it was clear from their posture that they were tense.

“What’s happening?” Brandt asked.

“Nothing,” Barron answered.

Brandt turned to look at his best friend and just stared at him as they continued walking. “Is it official?” he finally asked.

Barron shrugged. “Partially.”

“Partially?”

“Started it. Didn’t finish it.”

“Why?”

“Why did I start it, or why didn’t I finish it?” Barron asked, finally meeting Brandt’s gaze.

“Yeah,” Brandt snapped.

“I want it more than anything I’ve ever wanted in my life. But she made it clear I’m not enough. Stirring up old emotions on a holiday trip home isn’t enough to base forever on, so I stopped.”

“She’s pissed.”

“She’ll get over it,” Barron said.

“And if she doesn’t?” Brandt asked.

Barron smiled, that smile slowly growing into a smirk as he regarded Brandt. “Then I’ll make it official because I’ll know it’s really me she wants and she’s not caught up in the holiday-needing-to-be-part-of-a-couple-so-you’re-not-alone thing.”

Brandt laughed and shook his head. “Can a single one of us do anything about getting our mates simply?”

Barron grinned at him. “If we did, it wouldn’t be quite as memorable.”

“I’m getting back to Tempest,” Brandt said. “Let me know if you need anything.”

Barron went back to his family’s blanket and sat down.

Delilah reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder.

He turned to smile over his shoulder at her then waited along with everyone else for the show to start.

Angelle sat quietly beside Avaleigh and Daniel. She watched all the intricate goings on around her. She reluctantly pulled her gaze away from all the males caring for their females, making sure they were warm, the females making sure their kids were taken care of. Even the mates arguing or struggling to find their way, the realization that she’d never have her own settling in over her like a dark cloud.

Tempest zeroed in on Angelle almost immediately, watching the young woman pull deeper and deeper into herself. She walked over to Angelle and quietly spoke to her as she reached her. “Hey, Angelle.”

Angelle turned to see who was behind her. She smiled at Tempest. “Hey, Tempest.”

“You okay?” Tempest asked.

“Oh, yeah. I’m fine.”

Tempest nodded and hugged her. “Good. Because you’re going to need to be ready for a wild ride when your mate finally finds you.”

Angelle stepped back and looked at Tempest.

“Trust me. It won’t be long.”
