“Holy shit,” I mumbled with a mouthful of pancakes. “You weren’t kidding. These are bloody amazing.”
“Thank you,” she answered, a blush rising on her cheeks. “My dad and I used to make these together every Saturday. It’s one of the things I’ve missed most since he passed away.”
“I can imagine. How often do you make them?”
“Every Saturday,” she smiled.
When we finished, she grabbed the plates and turned to put them on the counter. She turned back around and her jaw dropped when she found me down on one knee with a ring box in my hand.
“Oh my God!”
Her hands flew up to her mouth and tears gathered in her eyes.
“Baby girl, before I met you, I could never have imagined spending my life with someone. I never wanted to. It wasn’t until you left that I realized just how wrong I was. You deserve everything good in this life and I want to spend the rest of mine making sure you have it. Leah, I love you. Will you marry me?” I asked, opening the box.
“Yes!” she yelled, launching herself at me.
I chuckled as we toppled onto the kitchen floor and then crashed my mouth against hers. I kissed her deeply and her tongue met mine stroke for stroke. I broke the kiss and sat up, pulling her into my lap. I picked the box up off the floor and took the ring out. Her eyes widened when I slid the ring onto her finger.
“Jason, it’s beautiful.”
Tears ran down her cheeks and I swiped them away with the pads of my thumbs.
“The center diamond was my grandmother’s. My mother has had it in a safe for years. She told me she knew I would always find my one and she was right.”
“It’s absolutely stunning. Did you design the rest of it? I love the infinity pattern on the band.”
“I did. I chose platinum for the band. The infinity symbols are to remind you that I’m all in for the rest of my life. The diamond clusters around the center diamond just seemed fitting given our… darker tendencies.”
“Black and red diamonds,” she laughed. “You’re right. It fits us perfectly. I love it.”
“And I love you,” I said, pulling her to her feet and spinning her around.
“I love you too.”
EPILOGUE
Leah
? ?? I’m here for your entertainment… ???
“I can’t believe you’re engaged!” Raven squealed.
“Me neither, bitch.”
“Classy, Sasha. Really classy.”
“Whatever, Leah. You could just thank me. After all, I am the one responsible for you two finding each other.”
“Bullshit! I’m the one responsible. After all, if it hadn’t been for me, Jason never would have found her at the cabin.”
“Actually,” Chase interjected, “Seb and I were the ones who were nice enough to give Jason the time off to do it.”
“Fuck off, all of you,” Jason chuckled. “We all know exactly who to thank for this.”
“Oh?” I asked, brow raised.
“Yeah. Tad gets all the credit.”
