Surprised, Charlotte followed Byron as he all but pulled her through the penthouse. “What? What’s going on?”
“You’ll see, kitten.” His smile was wide and infectious, and he looked almost boyish and charming.
“Slow down.” She chuckled and tried to keep up with his long stride.
He shortened his steps. “Sorry.”
“No problem. I’m curious, though,” she said as Byron guided her at a more moderate pace through the hallway. “What has you this excited?” They’d made love last night, and she slept in his arms all night. He might not have opened up to her about his past, but he had shown her with his body what he couldn’t with his words.
Byron led her onto a secluded balcony, and she gasped.
“I figured you hadn’t been here before, have you?”
Such a smug expression, but oh… he had all the reasons to be smug about this.
She double blinked. She’d seen Jacuzzis, but only at spas and saunas not in people’s houses—on their balconies. Tipping her head back, she gazed up at her Master. As much as she liked his surprise, she loved seeing the sparkle in his eyes even more.
“You know,” she teased, “it’s good I wasn’t aware of this sooner, or I wouldn’t have had time to help you in the office.” She enjoyed everything water, and a hot tub ranked high on her wish list—not that she ever talked with Liam about getting one. Her gaze returned to the Jacuzzi.
“Go on.” He nudged her shoulder. “You can go in.”
A bit uncertain, she gazed around and studied the glass partition.
“Don’t worry. Not only do I own the entire building, but no one is here at this time of day, except for one security guard downstairs. No one can see through the privacy glass.”
She almost bounced on her feet. “I would love to try.”
Byron leaned down and took her mouth in a voracious kiss. Sooner than she wanted, he broke off and patted her butt. “Strip and hop in.” He sauntered to the other side of the balcony and returned with a bottle of red wine and two glasses.
“Are you coming in with me?”
Pulling her flush against him, he whispered into her hair. “I would love to join you. Let me get towels and our bathrobes.”
Giggling, she stripped to her birthday suit with a boldness she didn’t realize she possessed until she met this amazing man.
When Byron returned shortly after, he made quick work of his clothing and hopped into the hot tub with her, splashing water in her face.
She giggled again.
“Whoops, sorry.”
Stroking the drops from her face, she shook her head. “I won’t melt from a little water.”
He pulled her against his side and pressed a few buttons, engaging the jets.
Charlotte groaned in delight as the forceful stream frothed the surface of the water and burrowed closer to him.
“Now relax here for a while. You have been hunkered over your laptop for quite some time today. Any luck in finding decent jobs?”
He was so sweet and considerate. All he seemed to want to do was to take care of her. Always concerned about her comfort and well-being. It was nothing like she’d expected when she turned up here a little over three weeks ago.
She tipped her head back and stared up at him. “No, not really. I suppose I have to settle for a minimum-wage job or somehow make my way through school and get certified.”
He hummed and played with the tendrils of hair at the nape of her neck.
That was something else she loved about him. He reserved judgment and gave a person time to think and explain themselves. Maybe because he was a private person himself. She narrowed her eyes on him. “You always ask questions about me, my day, and my plans, but you’re tight-lipped about yourself and what happened in your past.”
He stiffened.
