Until it isn’t.

Shit hits the fan.

I am exhausted, today has been hell. One after another, things have happened, I was punched in the face by someone who had lost their mind. I have a black eye, and Liam is going to lose his shit.

I walk out of the emergency room, and Liam is waiting for me in the parking lot. I keep my face down, hoping he doesn’t see. I know he won’t be angry at me or anything like that, but I don’t want him upset.

He is a little protective.

“What the fuck happened to your face?” he roars. His hands tilt my face upward, and his face is full of rage.

I grip his forearm. “It was an accident.”

He tilts my head to the side, getting a better view of the bruise. “Does it hurt, my love?” He touches the bruises softly.

I smile at how cute he is being. “I am perfectly fine, it was an accident.”

His eyes search my face, and I can tell he is trying to make sure that I am telling the truth. He nods, his hand settling on my back.

I hear four car doors slam right behind us, and I turn around and see five men walking toward us. Some of them have weapons, including a baseball bat and steel knuckles.

Oh my god. The cartel.

I look at Liam, full of fear. What will they do? Maybe we can get away? Liam tightens his grip on me and presses me toward the truck. He sticks his hand into his pocket and hands me the truck keys.

“Get inside, lock the doors, and if something happens to me, drive away.”

I shake my head. I will not leave him and let these guys hurt him.

“Baby, please, I can’t worry about you.”

I blink back tears and get into the truck, locking the door. I roll down my window halfway. I open the middle compartment and take out the handgun. I am not fucking leaving.

Liam looks back at me, smiling.

The five guys are standing directly in front of him. I take out my phone and text my dad.

Me: Dad, five cartel members have cornered Liam in the parking lot at the hospital.

I then open the app that was made for the women of the club. I press down the code red button, letting everyone know I need help ASAP.

“Let me have the girl,” one of the cartel guys says, and my whole body stiffens with fear. They want me? Why do they want me?

Liam throws his head back laughing, and the five guys look at each other in confusion. Liam looks at all of them. “You came for her?”

“Yes, we did.” He steps forward, swinging his bat.

“Big fucking mistake,” Liam says, his voice deep with anger.

In the blink of an eye, Liam has the guy’s bat out of his hands and is swinging it right at the fucker’s head. The guy hits the ground like a ton of bricks. I gape at the sight of him lying there, out cold, with the other guys staring at him.

I would not be surprised if the guy’s skull is broken.

Fear is all I feel right now. I fear for Liam, and I fear what could have happened if I had been taken. I don’t want to know what they have planned for me.
