“I didn’t offer because I thought I had to. I’m trying to do something nice for you. And I’ll be eating this, too.” His voice was low so that the cashier couldn’t hear, but she watched us curiously.

“And while I appreciate it, I can pay for the groceries. But thank you,” I whispered, reaching into my pocket for the wallet I’d shoved in before we left the house.

Nathan shrugged, watching me inquisitively. I swear he stared at me sometimes like I was a complicated math equation he was trying to solve. I hated to break it to him that I wasn’t that deep.

“Michael stroked Kayla’s hair, lingering on the tight braid that ran down the expanse of creamy, soft skin left exposed on her bare back.”

My wide eyes met Nathan’s, his flashing with something that looked like recognition as the audiobook narrator’s voice sounded loudly from my pocket.

Oh shit.

“‘Such a beautiful pet.’ His deep voice murmured as he watched her chest rise and fall, her beautiful pink nipples straining in the cool air of his playroom. As goosebumps spread across her skin, he wrapped the tail of the braid around his fist, tilting her head backward as a small moan escaped her lips.”

“Holy shit.” My mouth dropped open as I lost my wallet, watching it fall to the floor while I tried to get a grip on my phone.

“As the tension tightened on her hair, Kayla’s eyes closed, another moan escaping as Michael held her captive. From her position on her knees, she tried fruitlessly not to move, but as the pain radiated from her scalp, mixed with the rush of pleasure that followed, her legs flexed, her thighs rubbing together.

‘Such a greedy little pet,’ Michael murmured. ‘Already shamelessly rubbing her legs together as she waits for my coc-’”

The sound cut off, but the damage had already been done.

“Oh!” The cashier chimed in, much to my mortification. “I know that book!”

“Do you now?” Nathan smiled as he glanced between my flushed cheeks and the bright eyes of the excited clerk.

“Yes!” She chirped. “And the author lives in town. She autographed my book last year. She’s so nice. And that new husband of hers, phew.” She fanned herself, giving a dramatic pant. “He’s super quiet but so handsome. You know what they say about those quiet ones.”

“I don’t know. What do they say?” Nathan tilted his head, studying her name tag. “Elizabeth. I’m curious now.”

“Stop it,” I hissed under my breath as I bumped my hip against his.

“That they’re the biggest,” she paused, leaning forward to cup her hand next to her mouth, “…freaks in bed.”

“Kill me now,” I sighed as Nathan laughed loudly.

“Yup, it’s always those quiet ones you have to worry about.”

“Excuse me for a moment,” I mumbled as I bent down to pick up my wallet. While I vomit in my mouth a little…

Nathan chatted with the cashier as I unzipped my wallet and pulled out my credit card.

“Oh, honey. It’s already been taken care of by your ruggedly handsome friend here,” the cashier waved away my hand as I offered her the card.

Glaring at Nathan, I grabbed one of the paper sacks from the counter, turning toward the door without a word.

“You two have a wonderful weekend,” the clerk called out after us. “Come back and see us anytime!”

Nathan rushed ahead to open the door for me, smirking as he held it in place, the other bag tucked under his arm. “After you.”

“Bite me,” I growled as I briskly walked the short distance to where his Bronco was parked. I was tempted to kick one of the tires but decided the poor car hadn’t done anything to embarrass me.

“Don’t ask for things you don’t want,” he laughed as he stepped around me, opening the back door so I could put my bag in the backseat.

“Kiss my ass,” I taunted, pushing my hand into his shoulder as I attempted to walk around him. He captured my hand, holding it to his chest as I glared at him. He was enjoying the fact that I was totally embarrassed.

“We both know I’ll gladly do that wherever and whenever you want, sunshine. But I don’t think you’re ready to explore your exhibitionist side. Let’s get back to the house first. Then I’ll gladly worship that ass.”

“Don’t tease me with things you aren’t planning to deliver on, Nathan.”
