The easy grin on his face morphed into something a little more calculating, maybe even sinister, as he backed me up against the passenger door. “Oh, I can fucking deliver.”

My head fell back onto the window, the cold glass a stark contrast to the heat I felt as he caged me in, his entire body pressing me into the side of the car.

“You’re playing with fire, little girl. You talk a big game, but I’m not sure you can handle what I want to do to you.”

The whimper that escaped my mouth was involuntary, but he was right. I’d been doing a lot of taunting lately that I wasn’t sure I could back up with actions.

Nathan pulled back, pinning me with an intense stare as he watched me. I averted my eyes, suddenly embarrassed at how I’d acted toward him.

“Look at me,” he whispered, tilting my chin, his breath steaming the air between us.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, closing my eyes. “I don’t know what I’m doing. This isn’t me.”

His lips touched mine softly, slowly coaxing them to move with his in a languid kiss that had me melting against him. As he wove his fingers into my hair, I sighed against his lips, kissing him back until we were both breathless.

“Relax. You’re doing just fine. This is about doing what feels good to you, sunshine. If giving me shit in the middle of the grocery store because you’re embarrassed you got caught listening to Chase’s smutty billionaire novel feels good, go for it.”

“I’m not…” I trailed off, my face flaming. “Wait!”

He was smiling as my head jerked up to meet his amused gaze. “Yes?”

“How did you know what Chase’s book was about?”

“Hmm?” He deflected, stepping back and reaching around me to open the passenger door. “Is that what I said? The cashier said something about…”

“Nathan,” I growled, narrowing my eyes at him as he helped me climb into the passenger seat. He reached around me, grasping the seatbelt as he whispered in my ear.

“Because that particular audiobook is one of my favorites.”

My breath caught as he leaned back, his eyes studying my face as he clicked the seatbelt into place. “But…”

“Hold that thought,” he murmured as he leaned in to kiss my forehead, his fingers cupping the side of my neck as he lingered.

My heart thumped erratically as I watched him jog around to the driver’s side, the gust of cold air that preceded him making me shiver in my seat. Or maybe it was the naughty smirk pulling at his lips as he quickly buckled his seatbelt, turning the key in the ignition.

I wasn’t sure what to say as he leaned forward and turned off the radio, holding his outstretched hand in my direction.

“Unlock your phone and hand it to me, please.”

I opened my mouth to protest but stopped, reaching into my pocket to pull out my phone.

The audiobook app was still pulled up, and my finger hovered over the X in the corner.

“Don’t even think about it.” Nathan’s hand closed over mine, gently pulling the phone from my grasp.

I shifted in my seat, licking my lips as he glanced at me briefly, lifting one eyebrow as he reached forward and clipped my phone into the mount he had on his dashboard.

“This is my favorite part,” he murmured as he pressed play, the deep voice of the male audiobook narrator filling the enclosed cabin of the Bronco.

“Michael circled Kayla, his eyes following her subtle movements as she tried to calm her breathing. Taking slow, measured steps as he watched her try to relax her body, her shoulders softening.”

I could suddenly relate to Kayla on an acute level because I was suddenly having a hard time relaxing as Nathan pulled out onto the main road, the crunch of the gravel under his tires the only sound besides the dulcet baritone of the voice actor.

“She truly was a beautiful example of femininity. Soft, fair skin. Long flowing hair pinned up into a neat bun at the base of her graceful neck.
