“You’ll get your money, Tristan. Let me figure something out. My accounts are frozen, so I need to rethink.”
Addison and Tristan stepped out of the room, and Carlos approached me.
“Please, help me.” Tears dripped down my cheek. He reached out and wiped them before they fell.
“You should have left it alone, little one.”
Carlos removed a knife from his pocket, raised it to my cheek, and trailed it down my chest.
“I… I… swear, I won’t say anything.”
“I think she’s got plans for you,” he responded before removing the knife. He smiled and walked out of the room. I heard a lock on the door. I closed my eyes, sniffled, and cried for my family and Aydin to find me.
Two days later.
For the past two days, the only thing I’d been able to do was go to the bathroom and come right back to be locked up. I couldn’t wash up, but he did give me food to eat even though Addison told him not to feed me. From what I gathered, she was trying to get money pulled together to leave the country because she was blasted in the media for stealing from her campaign. A few conversations I overheard Carlos have, he stated that if she didn’t have his money soon, he would make sure she was thrown under the bus.
“Has she always been in charge?” I watched Carlos lock me back up after I came from the bathroom. He paused and looked at me.
“Are you trying to do some mind games with me, little one?”
“No, I just want to understand.”
“Nothing to understand. I was hired to do a job.”
“What happens after they pay you?”
“I leave.”
I chuckled.
“You think after you get your money, Addison is going to let you leave.”
“She has no choice.”
“Come on, you have to see she’s crazy and only thinks about herself.”
He pushed his hands in his pockets.
“Are you worried about my safety?” He smirked.
I rolled my eyes.
“I think you should let me go, and I won’t testify against you.”
“Ahhh. So let me get this straight—”
The door swung open, and Addison glanced from Carlos to me.
“What’s going on here?” Addison sauntered in wearing a black pantsuit with her hair pulled up in a ponytail.
“Nothing,” Carlos replied, winking at me.
“Doesn’t seem like nothing.” She pointed from me to Carlos.
“All you should worry about is my money.”
“I’m calling the shots, Carlos. Remember that.” She poked him in the chest.
