“Any word on Edgar?”
“No, but let’s talk about something else.”
Pop! Pop!
“Arghhh!” I screamed when the side mirror was shot off.
“Get down!”
Nicco and Reggie were still behind us. We drove into traffic, as I prayed they were okay. We were still fifteen minutes from his home and five minutes from the bank. The car swerved from left to right, tried to avoid hitting another car as much as possible.
“Aydin!” I screamed as the bullet pierced the back window. He sideswiped another car to get out of the way.
“Open the compartment and pass me the gun.”
Tears fell down my cheek, as I popped it open and grabbed his 9mm. I’d never shot a gun in my life and didn’t want to have the responsibility to take someone’s life.
“I need you to put your seatbelt on.” Aydin picked up his phone.
“What are you about to do?”
“We’re blocked by three cars, hold tight.” Nicco answered the phone.
“Shit! They probably watched us from my parents’ house,” Aydin growled.
“Nasir is sending some men to keep an eye out.”
“Thanks for looking out.”
“Get off on the next exit. We’ll try to box them in.”
“It’s one car?”
Pop! Popppp!
“A tinted-out black SUV,” Nicco replied. I heard bullets over the call.
“I need to get her home safe.”
“Slow a little, then speed up. Almost there.”
“Hurry! Take the wheel.” Aydin ended the call.
“Aydin! Oh, my God!” He lowered the window and sent bullets to the car Nicco described. I held onto the steering wheel to avoid a crash.
Pop!
Aydin pressed the gas and took a sharp turn to get on the off-ramp. I held onto the dashboard and saw Nicco come up behind us, blocking the car that was shooting. We drove through the red light, and another car honked his horn. My chest rose up and down, and my hands shook as tears pooled into my eyes.
“I’m here,” Aydin comforted me.
“Yeahhh… Yeah,” I stuttered, grabbing his hand.
After another five minutes of driving in circles, we pulled up to his house and hugged each other. Then the door opened, and he pointed the gun, about to shoot.
“Wooo… It’s me.” Nicco held his hands up.
“Get her inside.” Aydin jumped out of his car. Reggie stood with Aydin and watched as traffic went up and down the street.
