I froze, completely speechless at how beautiful she looked and bit my bottom lip.

“Wanted to see if you were hungry.”

“I could eat.”

“Get dressed, and I’ll meet you out front.”

“Where are we going?”

“What do you have a taste for?”

“Gumbo.” Amelia walked to the closet and pulled out a black jumpsuit.

“Okay, I’ll look it up once you get ready.”

“Great, I won’t be long.”

“Cool.”

“Is something wrong?”

“No, why’d you say that?”

“You look like you want to say something.”

“Uh… no. Let me get out of your way.”

An hour and the half later, I pulled the chair out for Amelia and took the seat across from her at Belle’s Seafood Restaurant. She told me it was the best place that sold gumbo in Tennessee.

“Thanks for taking me out.”

“Not a problem. I knew being stuck under me for too long would drive you crazy.” I chuckled. She agreed and nodded.

“Hello, I’m Stevie. I’ll be your waitress. Would you like something to drink?”

Our waitress placed our menus down, and I motioned for Amelia to go first.

“Let’s see. What do I have a taste for?” She lifted her finger to tap on her jaw in thought.

“Can I get a ginger ale, and I’m ready to order.”

“Sure, and for you, sir?” Stevie asked.

“Same thing.” Even though I came with extra backup protection, Nicco and Nasir sat two tables away, and we had guards outside the restaurant. I needed to have a clear mind if something shifted.

“Sounds good. What would you like to eat?”

“I’ll take the Cajun gumbo with shrimp please.” Amelia passed her menu over, and I did the same.

“I’ll have your food brought out shortly.” Stevie smiled, angled to the next table, and took their orders before going to the kitchen.

“Any leads on Addison?” Amelia wrapped her pink lips around the straw in the water, I shifted in my seat to get comfortable.

“A few, but nothing panned out.”

“My life is completely a mess.”

“It won’t be for long. You can’t let her win.”
