“No thanks needed.”

Aydin stepped in the kitchen, and Rebecca walked out.

“Are you going to the office now?”

“I’ll call you with an update. Wesley is staying here. Plus, we have guards out front.”

“I need to get a new phone. My purse was left in the car.”

“Give me a few hours, and I can get someone to bring it over before the end of the day.”

“Thanks, Aydin.”

“You’re welcome.” He covered my hand with his and lightly squeezed.

AYDIN

A few days prior.

Nasir and I flew into Chicago with a few team members, and the goal was to talk with Addison and figure out what’s going on. After I left Tennessee, Amelia promised she would stay with the guard I had put on her to keep an eye on her until we got answers. I talked to Edgar before I left and didn’t know if I believed he didn’t know what she was up to.

“Aydin, what do I owe for this visit?” Edgar sat in his chair and sipped on his glass of whiskey. I drove alone to his house to have a one-on-one to see if I could get the truth about the entire event that night.

“Have you spoken to Addison?”

He shook his head.

“Not since her announcement, a few text messages. You know a senator is pretty busy.”

He tilted his head, crossing a leg over the other.

“I received some disturbing news and wanted to confirm.”

“You know Addison better than anyone.”

“Your daughter threatened to kill someone.”

“Hold up, kill someone? Do you know what you’re saying right now?”

“The last event was the final one I would be serving for your family.”

“The amount of money we bring to you…”

The door opened, and Addison came in with bags in her hands.

“Aydin, well, isn’t this a nice surprise.”

“Addison, glad you could come and clear up some things.”

Addison placed her bags down and went to her father to kiss him on the cheek.

“I can’t stay long. My car is waiting.”

“Did you threaten Amelia?”

“Who?” Her face scrunched up.

“Don’t play dumb, Addison.”
