“One phone call, and I can have her arrested.” Edgar shook his phone in my face.

“Do that, and your career will be over, Senator.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“I promise you’ll regret that call.”

“I buried my child because of that woman!”

“I gave all of the information to the police already.”

“You probably doctored the information.”

I glanced at Amelia, then Nasir and I made eye contact.

“Senator, I’m telling you for the last time, we’ll never speak on this again.”

“I know you’re about to open more businesses. I wonder how that will happen when I tell all of my contacts about you,” Edgar taunted and stuffed his phone back in his pocket.

“Try me.”

My fists balled up automatically.

“This won’t be over.”

He marched out of the building.

“Sorry to cause you more grief.” Amelia grasped my hand, and I pressed a kiss on top of her head.

“It’s not your fault.”

“Yes, it is.”

“No, you did your job.”

“Ughh… I hate this feeling.”

“What feeling?”

“Like he’s going to cause more drama than his daughter.”

“You don’t have to worry about him.” I interlocked our hands, as we walked into my office. I walked to my desk and opened the drawer. Edgar thought I didn’t have leverage after everything we went through with his crazy daughter. He didn’t know what I was capable of doing.

“What’s that?” Amelia set the bags of food on the table.

“Edgar.”

“Huh?”

I passed her the file and sat next to her on the couch. Amelia flipped it open, and I watched as her eyes widened in shock.

“He’s money laundering for the mob?”

“Yep, and if he does anything to you, then I’ll have to get this over to my friends at the SEC and FBI.”

“Do you think that’s where Addison got this from?”

I shrugged.
