“You haven’t even heard the question.”
I slid the covers back, rose out of bed, and headed to get ready for the day.
“Amelia, you need to have fun.”
“You have enough fun for both of us.” I pinned my hair up and sauntered to the shower, setting it to the hottest temperature.
“A nice dinner with a friend, nothing more,” Dani explained. If anything, she wanted me to give an opinion of her date and feel him out. The friend was probably one who wanted a one-night stand, and that wasn’t my style, but I talked about women who could have sex without knowing the person.
“Sorry, Dani, I have too much work.” She groaned and complained about me staying in the house all the time, and I chuckled at her groveling. Fifteen minutes later, I stepped out of the shower and went to my closet to pick out a nice pantsuit for today.
“That’s what you’re wearing?” Dani questioned, her face scrunched up at my blue-stripe suit.
“Yeah. It’s cute.”
“You’re an office manager; that outfit makes you look boring.”
“This is fine.”
We’d gotten dressed in front of each other over the years, so it was natural for us to see each other naked. I ran a hand down the white blouse I tucked in my pants and picked up the short jacket to button.
“Pair the red shoes to give you a little sparkle.”
“That’s a good idea.” I bent down to find the red Marc Jacobs heels I purchased a few years back.
“So how is the job going?”
“Well, my boss is a little distant, but everyone else is fine.”
“What do you mean distant?”
“Not sure, he just seems like I’m bothering him.”
“This is the security company, right?” she stated, flipping through a magazine. I laid on a little lip gloss and eyeshadow, released my hair to hang down, placed my glasses on, and turned around.
“Yes, how do I look?”
“Cute. But is the boss rude to you?”
“No, just always busy.”
“Interesting.”
“Very, but let’s go so I’m not late.”
“How are you doing with rent?”
“I talked to my landlord and explained I got a new job so I should be caught up soon.”
She shut the door behind her and locked up.
“So, about this weekend…”
“Ughh, Dani, if this will shut you up. I’ll go.”
“Yayyy!” She reached over to hug me.
“Text me the time and place.”
