I shrugged.

“From what Aydin has said, you two met because he stopped you from getting mugged.”

I nodded.

“The funny part is that I was coming from drinking at a bar after a long day of applying for jobs.”

“Well, we’ve all been there. Aydin is good at his job.”

“I know.”

“Then why fight him?”

“He’s…”

“Mean?”

“Pretty much. I’ve never had a boss just ignore me.”

“He likes you, talks about how smart you are. The entire situation had him worried.”

“I get that and understand as an employee, he wants to protect me.”

“More than an employee-boss relationship.”

“We’ve never crossed the line.”

“Oh, Amelia. I can see it in your eyes, honey. You and my son are smitten with each other.”

“I doubt he thinks of me in that way.”

“Avoidance doesn’t make it untrue.”

“You’re married, and I met Josiah at the office.”

“He’s the baby of the bunch.”

“I like Josiah.”

“All he does is drive me crazy, but that’s a conversation for another day.”

I chuckled.

“Work here, relax, and try not to worry. Let Aydin handle what he needs to do to protect you and your family.”

“Oh, my gosh. I forgot to call my parents.”

“When was the last time you talked to them?”

“Before the shooting.”

“Probably worried if they saw it on the news.”

“I’d planned on getting a new phone. Everything was left in my car.”

“Check with Wesley. He probably can help with the tow truck company.”

“Thank you, Rebecca.”
