Page 41 of Aydin

Nicco helped me out of the store and toward the car. Police ran in along with the paramedics. I couldn’t stay to answer questions. Numb to what just happened, I needed to be home, and a part of me wanted to talk to Aydin.

“Maybe you should take a day for yourself.” Dani sipped on her coffee. I was dressed for work the next day, and she probably thought I was stupid. I planned on locating who was behind trying to kill me.

“I’m fine, Dani.”

I bit into the buttered toast and poured more cream in my coffee.

“You’re not fine, Amelia. Last night someone wanted to kill you.”

“Nicco will be with me today.”

“Where’s Aydin?”

“Still out in Chicago.”

“Maybe you should—”

Knock! Knock!

“Who is that?” Dani put her coffee on the counter and went to answer the door.

“Where is she?” He barged inside. Dani’s eyes rose in shock.

I lifted my phone and saw I had several missed calls.

“Aydin, I was—”

“Let’s go.”

“Aydin!” I dropped my phone on the table.

“You’re going to my place.”

“I thought you were in Chicago.”

“I was, and I got the call about two attempts on your life.”

“The police are investigating.”

He shook his head and grabbed my phone.

“Pack your things.”

“I have work” I fussed and stood my ground.

Aydin closed the distance between us.

“Nicco told me what happened, and we’re going to do things my way now.”

My stomach turned knots.

“Aydin, listen to me.”

“Pack your things.”

“Won’t that look weird, me staying with my boss.”
