“The last thing I’m worried about is how things look.”
“Amelia, listen to him.”
“Dani’s place is secured. We have the guards.”
“No!” He shouted, and I jumped nervously.
“Okay.”
He sighed and tried to reach for my hand.
“Amelia… sorry I yelled at you. This is just more complicated than I can explain.”
“Sure, Aydin.”
An hour later, we pulled in at his home, and he turned the car off.
“Who’s here?” I noticed two other cars in the driveway.
“My brother and mom.”
“Your mother is here!” My eyes widened in shock.
“I wanted to make sure I had everything you needed, and my brother’s a cop.”
“This is not how I wanted to meet your family.”
“Leave your things here, and I’ll bring them in a minute.” He opened the door and walked around to the passenger door and held it open.
“Your place looks beautiful.”
“You haven’t seen it yet.”
“Well, from the garden, I can tell you’re neat and organized.”
He laughed and pushed the door open. I followed him in to see his brother, I assumed, on the couch with a remote in his hand.
“Did you get the camera footage?” Aydin asked, and he lifted the brown folder.
“Not a close ID on the license plate.”
“This is Wesley.”
I started to drop Aydin’s hand, and he hesitated. I looked down and back up, then he released me to sit next to his brother.
“Hi. I’m Amelia.”
“Wesley, I apologize now for my brother. He can be a little overbearing.”
“Wesley, don’t talk about your brother like that.” An older woman with long curls and petite shape came from the hallway.
“Amelia, I want you to meet my mom Rebecca Reeve.” Aydin introduced us.
I shook her hand.
“How are you, Amelia? Aydin told us what happened.”
“Fine, it was pretty scary at the time.”
