I swallowed a sudden dryness in my throat and stopped typing on my computer.
“Do you think it was stupid to sleep with him?”
“I think you knew what you were doing when you slept with Kamden,” Rylee informed me.
“Is this honest hour?” I inquired, using our calling card whenever one of us needed to talk about something serious.
“Spill it,” Ry said.
I leaned back in my chair, closing my eyes, thinking back on the day of our time in Vegas. I had just wanted to get away from the noise and craziness of my ex, Freddie, constantly calling and texting.
“I liked him, and I had seen him a few times around CD Enterprises. He looked like a challenge with all the women around him, so I took a chance.”
“So, this was more of a game for you?” Ry wondered.
I felt a lump at the back of my throat.
“No, of course not. Ry, you know me. Besides, he’s the playboy who has multiple women on his arm.”
“I can remember going through the same thing with Colton in the beginning. My advice is to make sure you know what you’re doing and to not lead him on,” Rylee replied.
“I have no reason to contact Kamden beyond our little Vegas time; he doesn’t have anything I want in an official boyfriend.”
“I think he’s single,” Rylee told me.
“Good for him.”
Rylee chortled as she said, “That sparkle in your eyes. You got it bad, Ari.”
“I recall you falling all over yourself with Colton. Something about getting a little too close on the dance floor at a nightclub,” I said.
“We’re talking about you right now,” Ry retorted.
“No, we’re talking about this charity event. So, what do we want to do?” I asked.
“I was thinking of a charity ride with both teams.”
“What about making the tickets a certain price, and they get a charity ride, then dinner with the drivers to the highest bidder?” I questioned.
“That sounds amazing,” Ry answered.
I heard a knock on the door, and my secretary Tisha, walked inside with a bouquet of flowers. It was a large, clear vase with yellow roses—my favorite color.
“Look what came today,” Tisha announced.
I smiled, thinking my brother probably decided to finally give a peace offering.
“Those are gorgeous,” Rylee said.
“They were just delivered,” Tisha answered.
I removed the card and smelled a very distinctive scent I couldn’t place in my memory.
“Who are they from?” Ry questioned.
Opening the card, I turned it around and read the inscription.
Ari, I meant to say thank you for a lovely night, but you left without kissing me goodbye.
