“Think he’ll be on time ?”

“He’s a Marine. I know he’ll be on time .”

“You military guys and your attention to detail, man. It’s something else .”

“Tick tock, Carmichael .”

I sit up and run a hand through my hair before standing. “Yeah. So. You have the Game of Thrones books, right ?”

“I have all the ones that have been published so far .”

“Huh?”

“The series isn’t finished. There are supposed to be seven books, but only five have been written as of right now .”

“But you have those five ?”

“Yeah. Colton?” Ty sounds appropriately incredulous. “Are you about to ask me to borrow not just one book, but fivebooks ?”

“I am .”

“Good God, man,” he says with a laugh. “I hope she’s worth it .”

I bob my head and pace to the edge of the water, thinking me too. “How do you know this has anything to do with a woman?” I ask .

“Because I can’t think of any other reason that you would ask to borrow five books out of the blue,” Ty replies. “You know you could just watch the series, right? It’s on HBO .”

“Yeah, but I don’t have cable. I just watch Netflix on my Roku .”

“Then get a subscription for HBO Now and put the app on your Roku.” Ty snorts. “Still want to borrow the books ?”

“Actually, smartass, I do. That’s not to say I won’t also watch the series to get caught up. But, I’d like to make an impression on this woman and I can’t think of a better way to do that than slogging through five books .”

“Five really big books. I think you should know that going in .”

“Sure. Right. Noted. I’ll swing by and pick up these five really big books after dinner. But hey,” I say because I know he’s about to rush me off the phone. “I only have until Friday to figure this out, so if I wanted to impress someone who is coming to a costume party dressed as Dany…Danirieus …”

“You mean Daenerys ?”

“That’s the one! If Tessa is going as that, what should I wear to match ?”

“That’s so easy. Khal Drogo .”

I shake my head and widen my eyes. “What the hell is a Khal Drogo ?”

“Dude. Google is your friend.” Ty laughs. “I’m telling you, just binge watch the show on HBO .”

“Nope. I’m gonna read the books. Everyone always says they’re better than the show, right ?”

“Yeah, but that usually includes the assumption that the person reading the books is smart enough to understand them.” Ty laughs again .

“Nice. Real nice. Remind me why we’re friends again?” I retort, laughing in return. “I’ll see you tonight.” I end the call and pull up info on HBO Now as I head back to the main part of the farm. If I’m going to be binge watching this stupid ass show for the rest of the week, I better get that fence around the chicken coop taken care of now .
