“You may be right, Mum, but if I decide I don’t want to be with him, do you really think he will let me go?” I sigh.

Mum smiles a small smile. “I can’t answer that, but I know you won’t go. You just need to realise that yourself.” She pats my leg and stands.

“Where are you going?” I ask.

“Well, I am only here for one night, so I intend on living it up like I'm a millionaire. So excuse me while I go and have a dip in the pool.” She claps excitedly and steps out the door, but then she sticks her head back in. “Of course, it would be wonderful for my only child to join me,” she adds.

I relented, only because I wanted to spend time with my mum. It was just what I needed. I haven’t seen Kaid, he has kept his distance, for which I am thankful. She was a welcome distraction.

“I don’t want you to go.” I pout as Mum packs her bag.

“I know, honey, but I can’t have the café closed any longer. I can’t afford to lose trade.” She zips up her bag and gives me a kiss on the cheek. “Now, you will be fine, enjoy yourself, and if it isn’t right then just call me. I've made Kaid agree that your happiness is what is important, not his.”

I walk her down to the boat and wave her off. Feeling alone, I walk back up to my room but stop outside Kaid’s door. My hand hovers over the door to knock, but I quickly pull it back and carry on to my room.

I lay there at night, struggling to sleep. I tap my fingers over and over. Can I be with a mafia boss? Can I love a mafia boss? I roll my eyes. Too late for that last question. I look at the clock to see its after midnight.

“Fuck it.” I huff, getting out of bed. I walk with determination to Kaid’s room. My heart is beating out of my chest and my palms are sweaty. I am not sure why I am so anxious, it’s not like I haven’t spoken to him before. I bite my bottom lip and knock. I stand there, waiting for a while, and it feels like I've been waiting too long. I shake my head and turn to walk back to my room.

“Kroschka.” I turn to see Kaid stood in the doorway, in just a pair of low hung shorts.

I fiddle with my hands, and my eyes connect with his. “Um, I just wanted to say thank you for bringing my mum here.” I smile nervously.

“She's your mother, of course.” He pauses. “Is there anything else?” he asks.

I shake my head. “No, um, no.” I smile, turning and walking away before I stop and spin back around to face him. “Um, yes…” I pause. “I don’t even know how old you are.”

“Thirty-two. If that’s all…” He moves to close the door.

“No, that’s not all. I, um, er, fuck, I can’t speak all of I sudden.” I sigh, frustrated.

“Just say what you want to say, Kroschka,” Kaid prompts.

“Right, okay. So, um, you are you, and I spoke with my mum, and she helped me think of a few things. Well, she helped me process, and well, face up to myself. You know, she's good at that, making you realise what you need to realise. She's always done that, especially in my teenage years––”

“Theia. Get to the point.” Kaid sighs, and I don’t miss the way his lips twitch as he fights a smile.

I look him in the eyes, his beautiful rich, dark brown eyes. “I'm scared. I'm scared that something will happen to you, like it did your dad. I'm scared that you will get put in prison for a really long time, and I am so scared that you will break my heart. Somehow, and I don’t know how, you’ve bloody done it, and frankly, I'm pissed off, but you made me fall in love with you. Despite everything that has happened, you have managed to make me fall in love with you, and that’s insane! Crazy even that I have fallen in love with a man that has done all that you have done. I mean, maybe I'm not right up here,” I say, tapping the side of my head. “I don’t know what to do next, I don’t know whether you want me, or whether you’ve had enough or what?” I ramble.

I look up at Kaid. He's just stood there, leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes pinning me, not saying a word.

“Kaid, for fuck’s sake, say something, please,” I beg.

Twenty-Six

Kaid

She's standing before me, telling me she loves me, demanding I answer her. She's getting pissed off and frustrated with me.

“Kaid, you just going to stand there and ignore me?” she snaps. I don’t react. “Do you know what, forget it, fuck you,” she yells, pointing at me. Before she can move, I grab her wrist, pulling her towards me. I turn and pin her against the wall.

“You love me,” I growl.

She bites her lip, not answering, but she nods her head. I grab under her behind, lifting her up, and she wraps her legs around my waist. Our eyes connect, neither of us saying a word––we don’t need to. I free my dick from my shorts and thrust up, filling her, not wanting to waste a minute. I need her, I need to feel her. She moans, her nails digging into my shoulders as I thrust up over and over. Both of us are panting, and I rest my forehead against hers. She closes her eyes.

“Kroschka,” I growl. She opens them and looks at me, and the look of love and desire in her eyes has me losing control. I pick up my pace, relentlessly pounding into to her.

“Kaid,” she whimpers. She's close, I can feel her walls tightening around me.
