Page 29 of Kaid's Empire

Kaid’s eyes turn black with anger, and he pins his gaze on Mikhail. I cup Kaid’s face, making him look at me. “Hey, it’s okay. We can talk later,” I say before kissing him softly.

He lifts me off his lap with ease, and taking my hand in his, we walk across the room to Mikhail. Kaid stops, letting go of my hand, and he grabs my hair, tilting my head back. “Go lie by the pool, I will come and find you soon,” he orders and kisses me firmly.

I nod and smile at Mikhail. “Good luck,” I whisper, making Mikhail smirk.

“Don’t smile at my fucking woman,” Kaid barks.

It’s been hours since Kaid was called off to whatever business needed doing. The sun is now setting, and I am sat looking out to the lights of Monaco, sipping a glass of wine. A speedboat skims across the water, approaching our yacht. I watch as it has two men on it, both looking at the boat. One of them looks up at me and a chill runs down my spine. He smiles––they don’t stop, they just slow down, watching me. I step back, feeling threatened, which is ridiculous because they are in a public ocean, not my back garden. I turn and move quickly, walking straight into Kaid’s hard chest.

“What is it?” he asks.

I shake my head and smile. “Nothing, just my silly overactive imagination. Just some people on a speed boat, circling the yacht. It just felt a little intrusive.”

He tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. “People love to look at expensive things, they liked to be nosey. You’ll get used to ignoring them.” He takes my hand in his, leading us inside.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

“Bed,” he answers.

“But it’s only eight o’clock, we haven’t eaten yet and I'm starving,” I complain.

He stops and pins me to the wall. “I have something you can suck on until we eat.” He winks playfully. I burst out laughing. Another side to Kaid I haven’t seen. He smiles. “I am hungry too, but you are my starter. We can work up our appetites, then I will have them bring us our food,” he states, kissing me briefly before taking my hand in his and leading me to his bedroom.

“Try this.” He holds out a little dumpling looking thing.

I open my mouth and he feeds me it. “Hhhm, delicious. What is that?” I ask.

“Pelmeni, it’s like a Russian dumpling.” He smiles.

I sip my wine, watching him, sat against the headboard with nothing but a sheet wrapped around my body. Kaid is led across the bed, leaning up on his elbow, the sheet draped low––just covering him. We have a tray full of different foods and a bottle of wine.

“This is the most relaxed I think I've ever seen you,” I point out.

He smiles. “That’s because I've just fucked the most beautiful woman in the world, and now I get to feed her.”

I laugh. “Since when have you been a smooth talker? What happened to the cave man, bossy arsehole?”

He moves suddenly, making me jump. Leaning over the food, he grabs the base of my neck lightly. “That side of me is always there, Kroschka. You get all sides of me.” He smiles. I smile and kiss him, and he leans back. “Eat,” he orders.

I roll my eyes. “Always so bossy.”

We eat and talk––it’s probably been the most normal time we’ve spent together. Kaid talks about little bits of his childhood and his parents, but he hasn’t said how they passed away, so I don’t press.

“Tell me, who was your favourite band growing up?” I ask.

“You won’t know them but there was a rock band called Kino. I listened to them a lot growing up. But from the western world, probably Foo fighters, Nivana, Chilli peppers.” He shrugs.

“Good to know you don’t like shit music, although I've never heard of the band Kino, so maybe I will hold off my judgment until then.” I laugh.

He pulls me to him, my back to his front, and I yawn. “Lights off,” he calls out, and the room plummets into darkness.

“Way too much money.” I tut.

“Kroschka,” he warns.

“Fine, I will let you off, its Aleck and Allegra’s boat anyway,” I add.

“Sleep,” he orders, holding me tight to him.
