He pressed play, and I watched a video feed of the man in the gray hoodie. He stood in the same parking garage where she had dropped off her sister at the airport. I saw him turn to the cameras, shove his hoodie back, and smile.

He didn’t have to say a word. The threat was clear without any communication. As soon as he revealed his identity, I knew I had gotten shit wrong. Somehow, I had been deceived. The entire club. Every single Reaper. We’d been played for fools.

My lip curled into a snarl. “Razr.”

Xenon shook his head. “He’s alive. I don’t know how, pres. It doesn’t make sense.”

“No, it doesn’t. That’s the point. He wants me to know he’s been fucking with me all along. Messing with Trish. The photo and the knife. Almost closing my account at the parts store.”

“Fuck. I hate that asshole.”

“Oh, don’t worry. Now that I know, he won’t be breathing for much longer.”

Chapter 11 Trish

“You can’t leave. Grim said you’re on lockdown.”

“Well, I can’t get ahold of him. I have to pick up Creed’s prescription. The pediatrician says he’s got an ear infection.”

After all the mess with Creed’s runny nose and molars coming in, he started pulling on his ears and complaining about the right one hurting. I did a telehealth visit, and the doctor said he needed an antibiotic. He called it in a few hours ago, and now I had to pick it up.

“Sorry, Trish. No can do. Grim would kick my ass.”

“I’ll kick your ass if you don’t move out of my way, Rael.”

The threat was minimal. We both knew it.

He smirked. “Trish. I’ll go pick it up. Whatever you need. Just make a list.”

“Do you know which diapers he needs? Which sensitive wipes for his bottom so he doesn’t get a rash?”

“No. That’s why you’ll write it down.”

“Do you know which lube to pick up for me and Grim?”

He gagged. “Jesus. Fucking. Christ.”

“See? I need to go the pharmacy, Rael.”

He scrubbed a hand down his face. “I swear to fuck; if you don’t stay with me every second we’re in there, I will chain you to my side. Grim won’t care. Neither will Nylah. She likes the chains.” He added that last part with a grin.

I rolled my eyes. “Text him so he knows.”

Rael tried to call first. He shot off a couple of texts promising to keep me safe and that Grim could blame me for lube and shit. He showed me what he wrote. What a comedian.

I tried to ignore him as we left The Crossroads and drove fifteen minutes away to the pharmacy. He didn’t care; he justkept talking about Nylah and the boys. It was cute, but I didn’t tell him that. Rael had an ego the size of Texas.

“Listen,” he began as we parked, “I’m following you down every aisle. Every step you take, I’m right fucking there. Anyone looks at you, I’m gonna be there to fuck them up.”

“You’re so weird,” I sighed. “Come on.”

Rael stayed annoyingly close to me in the store. He even bumped into me a few times. Ridiculous.

“I appreciate the effort, but this is starting to irritate me.”

Rael shrugged. “Pres wouldn’t want it any other way.”

His eyes lit up, and I could see the freak the guys in the club often referred to. Rael was a little unhinged.
