“That sounds nice, but I’m going to have to raincheck you this time. I have prep work for tomorrow.”
“Damn. Can’t really kiss you unless we’re on a date.”
“Then, I guess you’ll have to ask me out some other time.”
I feel so much better that I decide not to tell him about Rourke.
I don’t want to have to think about my ex right now, and it doesn’t feel right to drag the guy I’m currently crushing on into that mess.
Rourke left when I told him to get lost.
He’s not a threat to me.
“I’ll make sure I do,” he promises. “Have a good night prepping for tomorrow.”
“I’ll see you at eleven thirty sharp.”
“I can’t wait.”
I hang up and take a deep breath.
It’s time to get ready for tomorrow.
Chapter Sixty
Gio
She actually called because I didn’t kiss her. Nothing’s going to wipe the smile from my lips now, that’s for damn sure. Our mate is starting to open up. That’s got to be a good thing.
I’m still standing in the dining room with my phone in my hand when Jack steps out of the kitchen with a tray, followed by Enzo.
“It’s finally time for lunch,” Jack says as he deftly moves around me with the tray.
“Are you on that app again?” Enzo asks, frowning as he approaches.
I show him my screen. “No. Beth just called.”
“She did?” Jack asks, tilting the tray and straightening it again quickly. “What for?”
“Nothing really,” I tell him, suddenly a little protective of the information.
She might be ready to start something with me, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready for four full-on fated mates who all want some of her precious time focused on them.
Jack narrows his eyes and I let out a sigh.
“Fine. She asked why I didn’t kiss her if I’m interested in her.”
“And?” He asks, as he starts setting the plates down on our regular table.
Enzo’s homemade ravioli. I had it a while ago and it still looks and smells delicious.
“I told her I’d kiss her on our next date, which hasn’t been arranged yet.”
“Good,” Jack says. “Keep it that way until she’s ready for the whole truth.”
There he goes, getting bossy with his lead Alpha like usual.
I look at Enzo and he shrugs.
