Chapter 9

Genevieve

The guys were still outside clearing the yard and vehicles when I stepped out of the shower and padded my way barefoot across the cabin to Tyler’s room, stopping long enough to peer out the window and watch the guys for a minute. I was struck once more over how powerful they both were; the snow was being shoveled at nearly superhuman speed, both men working fast and hard without any indication of stopping anytime soon.

“Wow.”

Would another go with them be such a bad idea, really? While overhearing them say it didn’t mean anything had hurt, it wasn’t as though I’d been misinformed or misled. Maybe I could even learn a few things for my books if I gave them a few more rounds…you know, research purposes only.

Smiling, I dropped the curtain and made my way to Tyler’s room to get dressed. The creative juices were indeed flowing. I’d thought of a dozen different book ideas and plot twists for the novel I was currently working on. Maybe all I needed all along to get rid of the writer’s block was a little cock? Who’d have guessed it?

After getting dressed in a pair of jeans and t-shirt, I heeded the guys’ advice and retrieved my gun from the drawer of the nightstand. Taking a second, I ensured it was loaded and the safety was on before taking it with me to the desk I had set up as my workstation and setting it next to the keyboard. Maybe later I’d go outside and do some practice shooting. It had been some time since I’d been to the range and if it did come down to me having to defend myself it would be nice to ensure I wasn’t rusty. I doubted I’d get a second chance to take the fugitives down if I missed the first time.

I’d gotten about an hour’s worth of writing in when I heard the guys coming back inside the cabin.

“Hey Genevieve!” Tyler called out.

“In here,” I called back. Perfect timing: I’d just finished off the chapter I’d been working on.

A moment later Tyler poked his head into the room. “Mind if I change?”

Laughing, I nodded. “It’s your room. Need me to leave?”

He raised a brow at me, the sexy grin appearing. “Considering last night, I don’t think I have much reason to be shy, do you?”

Damn him for making me blush again! “Suppose not.”

“All the shoveling has got me drenched.” He pulled his sweater over his head and then the t-shirt that was under it. I hadn’t had much of an opportunity to look at his tattoos the previous night, but I took the time now. He had some random black and gray work on his arms, but it was his back that was truly amazing. It was a landscape piece of a mountain, with a pack of wolves being the highlight at the foot of the mountain.

“Your back tattoo is beautiful.”

Pulling a fresh t-shirt on, Tyler turned to face me grinning. “Thanks. I didn’t notice any tattoos on you. Do you have any?”

I shook my head. “None. It’s a combination of me being scared of the pain and not sure what I’d want to get. That being said, I do appreciate the look of a beautiful tattoo. The person who did your back is quite talented.

“Thank you two times.” He chuckled and gave me a wink. “We’re going to be going out and checking on some of the neighbors, or at least as many as possible considering the conditions. I have no idea how long we’ll be.”

“That’s fine. I’m on a roll.”

“Excellent, I’m really glad to hear it. We’ll try not to be very long.”

“I’ll be fine,” came my reply after glancing at my gun within arm’s reach.

“There’s still some daylight left. We should get Genevieve out of the house and maybe go for a walk. She must be going stir-crazy by now.” Tyler raised a brow at me, giving me a glance from the passenger seat of the truck. We’d been doing our best to plow the main road, but the snow was still coming down hard so it wouldn’t last long.

“The snow is a little high don’t you think?”

“We have snowshoes. Shit.” Tyler paused. “And there’s the fugitives to worry about,” he added. “We should be with her when she goes out, in case they’re up here.”

“Considering they were in town, I can’t see them trying to make their way up the mountain in the woods in this storm. Chances are they’re holed up somewhere in town.” I reasoned. “No one in their right mind would come up here.”

“That’s the thing. They aren’t in their right mind.”

“If they managed to escape then they can’t be too stupid,” I countered.
