And I needed a shower. I smelled like sex. It may have been my imagination, but either way a shower was definitely in order. With the idea of a shower in mind, I pulled the blanket from my body and quickly threw on a pair of jogging pants and a t-shirt. No doubt the guys would spend the day clearing the yard and checking on nearby residents so I’d have plenty of time after breakfast to clean up.
Not being able to resist my own curiosity, I gave my appearance a once-over in the mirror. My cheeks were glowing and my hair was a tangled mess. Grabbing a brush, I quickly removed the tangles so I looked somewhat presentable. Taking a deep breath in, I slowly released it and opened the bedroom door.
I could do this. It was just sex and it meant nothing.
The guys were already seated at the table and eating.
Brock looked up and motioned toward the empty seat with a plate in front of it and a glass of apple juice. “We’ve already served you up a plate and you lucked out; there was some apple juice left.”
I forced a smile to my lips and forced myself to remain calm and not allow myself to reminisce about the previous evening. “Thank you.”
Trying to avoid eye contact with the guys, I grabbed the syrup and poured some over the pancakes. As the guys began to discuss what they had in store for the day, I focused my attention on my food. It was delicious; everything the guys cooked was amazing and they did it on a wood stove! Amazing. It made me feel as though my cooking skills weren’t as up to par as I’d once believed.
“You must really be enjoying the pancakes…. Genevieve?”
My head jerked up and I looked at Tyler and then Brock, not sure who had spoken to me. “Sorry.” I flashed both men a smile. “I’ve got a bunch of ideas forming in my head for my book and I’m a little anxious to get started.”
The men looked at each other and grinned.
“Don’t suppose we had a little to do to help you out with that, did we?” Brock asked, giving me a wink, causing my cheeks to grow warm. I really didn’t need to be reminded of how incredible the previous night had been; I was fully aware and that was the problem. That being said, it had sparked a number of ideas for future books and given me firsthand insight that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I could thank them for that at least.
I cleared my throat and chose to ignore his attempt to engage me in conversation about last night. “Is it okay if I take a shower after we finish with breakfast?”
“Of course.” Brock’s grin widened. “Unless that’s a request for us to join you.”
Rolling my eyes, I responded. “I think I can handle a shower on my own. I appreciate it though. I just wasn’t sure what type of facilities you had, is all.”
“We just ask you keep it relatively brief since hot water is at a premium here unfortunately.”
“Of course.”
“Then shower away. We have a lot to get done today and we’ll be gone a good chunk of the day I suspect.”
“That’s fine.” Were the asking my permission to leave?
“I mention it because the fugitives were spotted in town and robbed the Route 66 diner by gunpoint,” Tyler explained. “We need you to keep the blinds closed on the windows and door locked; do not open the door for anyone other than us.”
I nodded.
“You might want to keep your firearm handy, but don’t use it unless absolutely necessary.” Brock gave me a hard stare as if I was a naughty child.
“I’m perfectly capable of handling myself. I’ve told you two that already before you kidnapped me.”
“Oh Lord, it was for your safety, and considering the blizzard going on out there and the fact the fugitives are on the prowl in the area I’m glad we did.” Brock stated.
As much as I didn’t want to admit it to either of the guys, I was also grateful they’d forcibly removed me. Sometimes common sense wasn’t my greatest gift.
