TRENTON
I walk Lyra home and then return to the frat house. I need time to think over everything we talked about. I know Lyra has changed, but what she did…
Rubbing my face with my hand and yawning, I almost run into Alex. “Hey, how was your date?” I shake my head and try to move around him. I am not in the mood to chat and have him try to convince me that Soren is a good guy again.
My gut tells me differently and it’s usually right. “Hey, Trenton, really man? Why are you being a dick?” he says with a scowl and I take a deep breath.
“Sorry, I’m fucking wiped, man. What’s up?” I say with a fake grin and he mellows out. I do not have time for a fight at the moment.
“Yeah, okay. I get that,” Alex mutters. “Did you ask your girl about the party? The guys are excited and haven’t stopped talking about it.”
Well that’s a great cherry on a shit-tastic day. “That’s great, man. I’ll make sure it’s epic and get an invite out to the sorority houses too. I asked her and she said she’d be there,” I tell him, even as the words taste like ash in my mouth.
Lyra is still important to me, and I don’t feel like she’ll be safe here at a party.
Alex grins at me with a nod. “Fuck, that’s what I was hoping to hear. Ever since Terry and I broke up, I’ve been in a foul mood. A party is just what I need too. Thanks, man,” he says, clapping my shoulder as he walks away.
Shit. Walking into the living room, I rub the back of my neck in annoyance. I want to go to my room and unwind, but I’m already in hot water with Alex and the guys for not hanging out more with them.
Pulling out my phone, I slouch down on the couch as I take a seat, figuring I’ll get a head start on my party checklist. This isn’t the first event I’ve planned, and I’m used to taking point on them. Unfortunately, this’ll be the first one that I’m dreading.
I’m so deep in thought, I don’t realize Soren is in the room until it’s too late to leave. Fuck.
Glancing up, I force my face to remain impassive, reminding myself I can’t punch the smile off his face.
“Hey, man,” Soren grins. “Your girl’s so gorgeous, I was harder than steel. I needed to fuck a tight pussy, thanks to her, so the hot fuck in the gym hit the spot for me. She screamed my name like such a pretty little whore.”
“Nice,” Alex snorts. “This is the best time to find prime pussy in the gym. The security guards get bored and go out for coffee.”
My jaw grits in anger so tightly that I could grind glass to dust between my teeth. Lyra and Cassie can’t go to the gym at night anymore. It’s not fucking safe. Now, to figure out how to tell a black belt what to do. Fuck my life.
“I’d appreciate it if you keep my girl out of your spank bank material, Soren,” I mutter. “I’m going to finish in my room.” Then, to keep the peace, I say louder, “Alpha Sigma Pi house is partying this weekend!”
This is met with cheers and hoots, and I gratefully leave without an issue. Soren and Alex have become thick as thieves, so I’m not winning any points if I make my hatred any more known for the guy than I have. I definitely don’t need to listen to Soren’s bullshit right now.
Remembering that Lyra said Cassie was recently at the gym, I decide to check on her. Closing the door to my room behind me, I lean against it to call her.
Frowning when there’s no answer, I decide to text her. I don’t care if this makes me seem needy.
Me: Hey, I just realized that I haven’t talked to you since our chat, and it’s weirding me out. I need a little Cassie in my life. Text me back… I need some fro-yo-yo soon with my friend.
Fuck, I really hate calling her that. Lyra’s right, we both need her, I just need to show her that. Tossing my phone on the bed, I pull my hair in frustration. If she’s not fucking talking to me, it’s impossible to do that.
Hoping she’s okay, I pull my shirt off and throw it into my hamper. I need a shower to wash off the day. It didn’t go the way I planned at all.
I dislike having to stalk Cassie in order to be able to spend time with her when she already has a bonafide stalker, but I’m going to have to do just that so I can talk to her.
Chapter Four
Walking down the quiet hallway of my dorm, I chew on my lip. Tonight didn’t go at all the way I thought it would. I thought I’d have a great date with Trent, make a plan to get Cassie back in our lives, and I’d come home.
None of that happened, unfortunately.
Unlocking my door, I half hope Cassie is awake. There’s a small, huddled figure in bed under the covers, and I slump in defeat.
“Cassie?” I whisper, hoping she’s still up. Frowning, I see her breath isn’t even the way it usually is when she’s asleep.
Great, she’s faking it.
