“Logan, are you pregnant?”

“Shh,” I giggle. “No one knows yet.”

“Logan, are you pregnant?” Marc asks again, his eyes and tone softening.

“Yes.”

“You’re pregnant?” he gently asks again. “I’m going to be an uncle?”

Once again, I can’t use words, so I nod in agreement.

“Oh my god,” Marc quickly bursts, his eyes glossing over as he wraps me up in a hug. “What did EJ say?”

“He doesn’t know yet.”

“No.” Marc pulls his body away from our hug, his hands up in defense. “Not again. I can’t know before him again.”

I can’t help but laugh at his desperation. I had to tell him. The timing was too perfect.

“Don’t worry. I’m telling your brother tonight.”

Marc’s concerned expression instantly softens. “Logan, you’re going to be a mom,” he whispers, pulling me into a hug once again.

“So, does this mean you’re moving to Chicago?”

Marc’s laugh echoes through my ears. “Hell yeah, I’m moving to Chicago!”

Chapter 60

Eli

As I walk out of my dad’s office, headed back to our wedding reception in search of my wife, I pass by a large mirror on the wall in the entryway, and I can’t help but laugh at how stupidly giddy my reflection is.

I couldn’t be happier.

I finally got to marry the girl who I’ve been in love with since I discovered the meaning of the word.

We have our closest friends and family with us here today to celebrate.

And on top of that, I just signed a seven-year contract with a team and city I love playing for.

I found my place. With family, with friends, and with hockey. My first year as a Raptor went better than I could’ve imagined. I centered our second line and finished third overall for points on our team. Not bad for a second-year player, undrafted, out of college.

Chicago has become a home for Logan and me. The city is perfectly bustling outside, but inside the walls of our apartment, it’s quiet, just the two of us. Unless Marc, Ali, or Cam are in town for a visit.

On top of all that, we live on a lower level in the building where Zanders has the penthouse suite, so my teammate and friend is always close by. Logan and I didn’t want to move into something too extravagant, seeing as I had only one year left on my contract when we moved to Chicago, but now that I’ve been extended, I’m looking forward to upgrading into a bigger place. In fact, there’s a building going up kitty-corner from where we are now, and I’ve had the top floor reserved for us, waiting to get my finalized contract. And now that Chicago is going to be our long-term home, I’m signing the paperwork to own the penthouse flat of a brand-new high-rise when we get home.

Just a little wedding present for my wife. She might kill me, but it is what it is. It’s a four-bedroom place, meaning they’ll be three empty rooms to fill with kids.

And I want to put one inside of her so badly. We’ve been practicing—a lot.

I duck into the reception tent to find the dance floor packed. My eyes immediately spot the angel in white with pretty red hair, dancing with my brother.

And it instantly puts a smile on my face.

We’re so lucky to have the family we do, including the extension we’ve created with friends. Logan once felt completely alone in the world, but there’s no longer an argument for that with how much love surrounds her now.

“Soft,” Ali teases, sidling up beside me, both our gazes glued to Logan and Marc.
