“Thank you. Granny is stubborn, so I’m not sure if she would say yes. She has a booming social life. I’m sure she had a better sex life than me. Well, before I met you.”

He frowned.

“Let’s just pretend you’ve never had sex with anyone except me,” he said.

I narrowed my eyes on him.

“And how many sexual partners have you had?”

“I think we should check on Glenda,” he said before taking my elbow and dragging me along the corridor.

By the time we got to her room, Granny was fast asleep. I couldn't see any bruises or cuts on her face. Samuel pushed a chair in my direction.

“I’m going to speak to the nurse about us staying tonight and her condition. Do not leave this room,” he stressed, making me roll my eyes.

It wasn't the usual procedure to let people into the ward at this time of night, but this is why I loved Elgin. Everyone knew one another and helped where they could. I watched him leave before I looked at my Granny in the dim light.

They had stuck a needle into her hand, and I smiled faintly, thinking about her grouching in the morning about how she had been stabbed by the nurses.

“Finally,” a voice said.

My eyes shot up, and I saw the slimy, dirty, blood-sucking bastard who had been hanging over us like a dismal cloud of doom.

I wasn't scared, I was pissed. I slowly stood up and moved away from my Granny, hoping they had drugged her up so she wouldn’t be disturbed.

“Aye, finally yae show yur skanky, creepy arsehole here,” I said, reverting to my not-so-posh accent.

Within a blink of my eye, he was standing beside me and slapped his hand over my mouth.

“I've got some questions for you,” he growled.

Over his shoulder, I saw Samuel walk into the room, and his eyes turned bright red with a tinge of orange in the middle, which couldn't be good for the creep. The dark rage on his face was something I’d never seen before. It changed his entire face, and I realised he truly was a monster when he chose to become one. He didn't hesitate. He dove for the creep and literally flew out of the window, dragging the creep with him. The sheer velocity of his movement left me stunned.

My heart was pounding so fast as I watched a few pieces of the remaining glass fall onto the floor. I glanced at Granny, who was still asleep, before I ran towards the window. We were on the second floor, but I was sure that vampires were pretty much indestructible.

Chapter 19

Samuel

I landed on his back, and I still had a hold of his neck. The fury and bloodlust made me pummel his head, but unfortunately, we had landed on the grass, so I couldn't pound his head on cement. He tried to get out of my hold, but I remained on top of him.

“I think I will take it from here.”

When I looked up, I saw Alaric casually standing beside a tree.

I kept a grip on the asshole’s hair while I focused on Alaric. My mind raced, wondering why an Elder would be here of all places.

“Who is he?”

“Someone who committed treason.”

“Against?”

“Christian.”

That made sense. Too many people had tried to kill Elders over the centuries, but they seemed to target Christian because he was crazy.

“I can't let him live,” I said as the waves of rage incensed me again. He put his filthy hands on my pregnant blood mate.
