“I will be back as soon as I can, and I will call you once it is all done, but I would rather you go back to sleep,” he said, glancing at the clock.

I knew it was a little after three am.

My lips trembled, and I couldn’t stop the tears from welling up. My father was a nasty bastard, and I knew he had killed so many people in his lifetime. I just wanted Reaper, Kieran and everyone else to be okay.

“Just come back to us,” I whispered, wiping my eyes.

I looked at his face studying every detail of his face.

“I love you, Reaper,” I said softly, sniffing and wiping my nose with my hand. “Almost as much May’s cheeseburgers.”

He chuckled, pulled my face towards his and kissed me hard. He released me too soon.

“I love you too, Katiana. You will always be my crazy old lady,” he said, smiling before pulling me to stand up.

He put his arms around me and pressed the side of his face into my belly.

“I love you both,” he said before kissing my stomach. “You need to stay up here we are sneaking out.”

I felt my tears again but blinked them away this time. I was not going to become an emotional mess—until he left.

I exhaled a deep breath and nodded.

“Good girl,” he said with a smile.

I glared at him.

“I’m not a dog,” I said, reverting back to anger.

He kissed my forehead before rubbing my belly and pulled away from me. He patted my head and ran out of the bedroom.

When I got to the doorway of the living room, I heard the front door click shut. I rushed towards the window and opened the one closest to the gates. It was dark, but I could still see their slight outlines.

“Please, come back to us,” I whispered.

I lay on the bed crying into the pillow when I felt a hand on my shoulder. My heart jumped, thinking it was Reaper.

It was Angel.

I sat up and hugged her waist.

“Shh, have some faith. They are all going to be okay. Trust me. Reaper killed his first Spawn when he was thirteen. He stabbed him in the neck, but then I don’t think he could stop. He did it several times. That’s where his road name came from.”

I pulled back and gaped at her.

She climbed on the bed, and I joined her, pulling my feet up and making some space for her.

“None of this came from me. I’m only telling you because I don’t want you upsetting my grandbaby.”

News travelled fast.

“Congratulations. I’m your number one designated babysitter should you need one. Reaper messaged me before he left,” she said softly. “I thought you might need the company.”

I nodded.

She lay down beside me and held my hand telling me everything that happened in the past. By the end of it, I knew Reaper would be okay. He had everything to live for, and my father needed to be obliterated from the face of this earth.
