“Be right back.” He disappears into the crowd.
As the stadium lights buzz on, Paige and I go to find seats. We don’t need to climb that high before we find empty seats four rows up.
Over the speakers, an announcer introduces the rival team, but I can’t hear their names at all over all the booing and shouts of, “You suck!”
Damn, this school takes football seriously.
Our school’s cheerleaders head over to a tunnel on the right side of the field, holding up a banner that says, Slay the Wolves! As a song by the Fall Out Boys plays, ‘My song knows what you did in the dark.’ When it gets to the part where it says, ‘light them up, up, up,’ sparklers go off beside the girls, and our team runs through the sign.
Luke’s the first one through, leading his team. Everyone in the bleacher stands and cheers.
I’m seriously getting sensory overload. I check the field to find Luke, Nick, Dom, and Mav searching the stands. I’m so short there’s no way they can see me until people in front of us finally start sitting down. As soon as they spot me, I wiggle my fingers at them.
Mav blows kisses until Nick smacks him.
I chuckle. That poor guy gets hit a lot.
“What makes her so special?” sneers a voice behind me.
I stiffen. Can’t I even enjoy a damn game without getting harassed? I peek over my shoulder to find Liv and Jasmine with another girl I don’t know. Great.
“Did you hear what she did to Carrie?” Jasmin says. “I couldn’t believe Ms. Webb would allow her best cheerleaders to be suspended.”
“I heard Ms. Webb had no choice…”
Turning forward once more, I tune them out. I’m so sick of the bullshit with these girls.
Paige rolls her eyes.
They keep up that shit for about another twenty minutes. I’m about to turn around and tell them off when a sexy distraction heads my way.
Cam’s gaze dips to me. “Hey, beautiful.”
“Hey, Camden, aren’t you going to sit with me?” purrs Jasmin, who hasn’t shut up since we sat down.
The guys have made it apparent that we’re all dating; we haven’t hidden it. Most girls have given up trying to get their attention; they just moved on to glaring at me or bumping into me in the halls. All except a few stupid ones.
Cam shoots them a sour glance then sits down beside me.
Liv gasps, almost crying.
I smirk, taking my drink and pretzel. “I think you traumatized that girl by ignoring her.”
“Good, she’s a bitch. I’m tired of their pettiness.” Cam nudges Paige. “So, how is the Little One today?”
“I’m good. Pissed off that I missed the fight.” Frowning, Paige stomps her foot. “I always miss the good stuff.”
“That’s a good thing. A beautiful flower such as yourself shouldn’t see such violence,” he says as he catches her hand and kisses it.
Paige blushes from head to toe.
“Cam, take it easy on her,” I tell him. “She’s not used to your flirting.”
“Hush your mouth, Beautiful. Everyone loves when I flirt with them, especially you, if I remember correctly.” He winks.
Warmth spreads through my body. He can flirt with me anytime he wants.
“Good, God. Can you three shut up and watch the damn game?” says the bitch behind us.
