“Gaby, it’s time to wake up, sweetheart. We are at the apartment in New York.”

He chuckled slightly and held out his hand to help Gaby out of the car, which surprisingly, she took and got out. I proceeded to get out of the car on the other side and met Gaby at the back of the car. She went to pick up one of her bags, but Nico immediately stopped her.

“I’ll take these and come down for ours in a minute. We have stuff upstairs, so there is no rush, but I’m guessing you would rather wear your own clothes than Hud’s t-shirt.”

It was Nico’s turn to embarrass her. I was sure she would either get used to us both or flee eventually. As I walked around the car to meet her, I could see the embarrassment on her face, but also the way she was looking at Nico. There was definitely an attraction there, which meant the sooner I told her what we both wanted, the better. However, I needed to give it a couple of weeks for her to settle in before doing that, and I knew just how I was going to do it too.

We made our way up to our apartment. It was, of course, the penthouse suite and was over two floors. I had chosen this area overlooking Central Park as it was close to the office and also felt more like home. I loved it here, but there were times I thought about moving back into the countryside. We walked in, and I immediately led Gaby to what would be her bedroom on the second floor, leaving Nico to get a drink for us both for when I returned.

It was one of the biggest rooms in the house, and we had decorated it for this exact occasion. No one had ever stayed in this room, and no one except Gaby would. It would be her safe haven, and neither Nico nor I would join her in this room. Except for tonight. Tonight, I just wanted to lie next to her until I knew she was settled and asleep.

“I’ll let you get changed while I get out of this suit. Then I will be back in.”

I walked along the corridor to my room, quickly changed into a pair of sweats, and walked back into Gaby’s room. I usually slept naked, but I thought that would be a little much for tonight. I could hear Gaby in the bathroom as I waited for her on the bed. It wasn’t long before she came out and smiled as she lay down beside me.

“I haven’t thanked you for coming to get me. You don’t know how much it means to me to finally be away from Vincent. If there is anything I can do to repay you—”

“You don’t have to thank me. I couldn’t let you stay with him. Now, tonight, just sleep. Doesn’t matter what time you get up in the morning. Just get some rest.”

“Will you stay with me?”

“I’ll stay until you fall asleep. This is your room. Your safe haven. I want you to have somewhere to go that is just yours. We will talk more tomorrow, okay?”

I could see the disappointment in her eyes, but knew it was for the best. Once she knew everything, she would understand. I pulled her into my side and gently rubbed her arm. I could hear her breathing start to slow and before long, she was fast asleep.

I WALKED BACK downstairs to find Nico changed and sitting in the living room with a drink in his hand, and one waiting for me on the table next to the sofa. I walked over to him and sat down, pulling him into my side. Feeling his bare skin against mine was something I had sorely missed, and I relished the heat of his body next to mine. “Even though I’ve been with Gaby these past three nights, I’ve missed you too. I wish we had just told her from the beginning and shared the weekend together, but after what she told me about Vincent, I didn’t want to push matters.”

He gave me a smile. “I understand, and I didn’t mind too much. We have her now, and we can steal our moments together like now.”
