CHAPTER ONE

Karina

It was embarrassing. I was in Vegas for my best friend’s bachelorette party and she’d told me we were going to a Celine Dion concert. In fact, my mom had given me three hundred dollars for the ticket and the money was burning a hole in my pocket.

But actually, Vera had planned something completely different. Instead of the talented Celine, we were going to a strip club.

“Vera, I don’t know,” I said hesitantly. “I mean, didn’t some of the girls pre-pay already? They’ll be out a ton of cash.”

“Karina seriously,” harrumphed Vera. “You can be such a stick in the mud sometimes. The whole Celine Dion thing was a cover-up. No one wanted to see her, she’s for, like, couples on their silver anniversaries. We,” she added with a lascivious smile, “are headed to Lucky Paradise Two.”

What? What kind of strip club was called Lucky Paradise Two? Was there a Lucky Paradise One somewhere? But I just shook my head. I wasn’t the bachelorette and it wasn’t up to me to call the shots. Fine, I figured. One night wouldn’t hurt and I’d get to see some amazing male bodies up close. With a couple of shots, everything would be okay.

“Drink up girlies!” shrieked Vera, prancing around the hotel suite. “It’s time to have a good time y’all!”

And I downed the tequila, the alcohol burning my throat. Oh god, that was awful but liquid courage was needed. With another gasp, I reached for a second shot, thinking only of hard, male bodies, gyrating, pulsing, dancing under multi-colored strobe lights. After all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right?
