I felt myself get lost in those dark red eyes all over again and it took me way too long to realize he was patiently holding out his hand for me. Déjà vu hit and I felt a split second of vertigo as the memory of a moment almost identical to this one washed over me.

There were no jacaranda trees outside Valor Enterprises, but the sun shone down on him like a blessing. It bleached his hair until it was completely white – glittering like snow.

This time it all felt real.

Liam was here. With me. The boy I’d lost. Somehow, I’d gotten him back and by some miracle, we fit together perfectly. What used to make me defective was now the only reason I didn’t overdose on his pheromones.

He was a legacy alpha and I was a dominant omega.

And then there was Cas – my dark knight. Always ready to avenge and protect.

Neither Liam nor I could feel truly at ease without Cas’s shadow looming over us, always watching. We were too alike. Without Cas, we’d fall apart because neither of us knew how to act normal when shit hit the fan. It was always a bloodbath.

I carefully placed my hand in Liam’s, knowing he would wait forever if he needed to. It felt strange to let him help me out of the car without once feeling defensive about it.

This was the kind of thing I’d normally make a fuss about, snapping at him for treating me like a useless omega but Liam was impossible to resist and his aura, his scent – all of it made me want to do anything to please him.

I wasn’t just any omega. I was his.

Liam pulled me toward him and closed the door, wrapping his arm around my waist to hold me close. Every inch of my body was pressed against his and I had to crane my neck to look up at him, but I couldn’t bring myself to put distance between us either.

He tucked my hair behind my ears and I felt my pulse pick up when he seemed to lose track of where we were and what we were doing. His thumb traced the shell of my ear as he studied each earring like every single one offered up a different mystery.

Liam Valor was just as obsessed with me as I was with him. Even the smallest details fascinated him as long as they had something to do with me.

He held my face with both hands, shifting his attention from my earrings to my eyes, searching them for the answer to those mysteries. “It bothers me that I can’t remember what color your eyes used to be.”

“They were blue.” Even though there were people watching, I couldn’t bring myself to care, not when he was looking at me like this. I wrapped my fingers around his wrists and braced myself against the nervous flip in my stomach when I turned his hand so I could kiss his palm. “Ninety-three percent of omegas have blue eyes before they settle into their designation…did you know that technically, there’s no pigment in blue eyes at all? Refracted light is what makes them that color.”

“Is that right?” When he smiled, I found myself smiling back at him even if I didn’t know why.

“It is. And it’s the same reason melanoid axolotls look blue in certain lights.”

“You’re such a fucking nerd.”

I grinned up at him, knowing he loved that about me.

“Does that make me an omega then?” Cas asked.

Liam laughed and slid his arm around my waist. “You’re just as pretty as an omega, so it wouldn’t surprise me if you were.”

Frankie rolled her eyes and pointed her helmet at Cas. “You need to show me where all the security is.”

“Yeah, yeah, give me a second.” Cas came toward Liam and me with enough intensity a thrill went through me in anticipation of whatever it was he wanted to do.

My alpha trusted me to do my job, but he didn’t want me to forget how important I was to him either.

His rough hands took my face and gently pulled me toward him, kissing me before I could stop him.

I breathed in the subtle scent of apples and cedar, all the lingering anxiety fading away with each passing second. Cas’s fierce protectiveness came through the bond to remind me he would never be far.

The taste of him was intoxicating enough I almost forgot where we were and what we were doing. I wanted to get closer, to peel this ridiculously tight shirt off of him…

“People are staring,” Frankie stated.

I shoved Cas away and turned toward the building. My cheeks felt like they were on fire and Liam wasn’t helping. His stupid smirk was only making all this a thousand times more embarrassing.

“Come on, I want to show you where I work.” Liam placed his hand on my waist and tugged me back to his side so he could give me a soft, sweet kiss on the lips. “Maybe if you see it, you’ll want to work here too.”
