This man was diabolical. Every chance he had, he said the most ridiculous shit.
I cleared my throat and let him lead me toward the front doors. “Why didn’t you park in the underground garage?”
Liam grinned down at me like the answer was obvious. “Because. I want them all to know you’re mine.”
I don’t know why I thought he’d do it for any other reason.
Liam was definitely the kind of person who would rub something like this in everyone’s faces. I belonged to him and Cas, and he wanted everyone to know I was off limits.
I really liked that about him.
CHAPTER 20
Lucy
Valor Enterprises looked exactly the same as it did the first day Frankie and I walked in here, but this time the sun had already set and it wasn’t raining. The lights in the lobby were bright but not blinding, and the security desk was on the opposite side of the reception desk.
I wiped my sweaty hands on my pants and tried not to feel self-conscious. My grey turtleneck covered my scent blockers as well as my tattoos but the marks on my neck were noticeable if someone decided to take a closer look.
Slipping my hands into the pockets of my coat, I scanned the lobby to see who was taking note of us and who wasn’t. The long black coat hid my holster and gun well enough, but there was always the chance someone might see it and ask why Liam’s omega was carrying.
That was the last thing we needed right now.
I let Liam direct me to the front desk in the lobby.
This was all just for show since I didn’t need another visitor’s pass after getting hired, but this would make everyone who didn’t know that believe I really was here just to see where my alpha worked.
He pointed out some of the architecture and design choices, but I couldn’t focus on any of it. I dropped my gaze to my feet, when it hit me all over again that we weren’t pretending anymore. I really was Liam’s bonded omega.
It was instinct to step closer to Liam until I was pressed up against his side. His hand slid from my lower back to my waist, tugging me even closer, and I was fascinated by how well we kept pace with each other without getting tripped up. He didn’t walk too slow, or too fast, and he never once let me falter despite the way I was practically plastered against him.
“This is my omega, Lucy,” Liam informed one of the people at the front desk. “I’m going to show her around a little. Will she need a pass for something like that?”
I glanced up to see the beta’s eyes widen, but he didn’t look at me even once. “Per the new security measures, yes, she does, Mr. Valor. All we need is a photo ID and she can head in with you.”
“Perfect, thank you.” Liam pulled out his wallet and handed the receptionist my ID, which only made the beta’s eyes widen even farther until I thought they would pop right out of his head. “I appreciate you upholding the rules regardless of who walks in here.”
The receptionist seemed flustered as he took my ID and started typing into his computer, stammering his appreciation that the boss would acknowledge him like this. It was kind of adorable and helped ease some of the attention off of me, which I was eternally grateful for.
Letting Liam hold my identification and credit cards was the right choice. It definitely made our relationship look serious, especially after he’d called me his omega – declaring to the world what I was.
It felt weird to be so open about it here of all places and even weirder that no one questioned my designation. I was used to people making their own assumptions and I never told anyone I was an omega if I didn’t have to. It was just safer that way.
But with Liam by my side…it didn’t matter who knew I was an omega. They would have to be a special kind of stupid to try anything with the red eyes of a legacy alpha watching everyone and everything around us.
“Here you go, sir.” The receptionist handed back my ID and the visitor’s pass to Liam, not me.
Normally, I’d be offended that he was ignoring me, but in this case I understood. He didn’t want to aggravate an alpha who was in the process of courting an omega. They were notoriously quick to anger and insanely dangerous until they were bonded.
Even then, they were overprotective, but someone’s life wouldn’t be at risk just for looking at me.
Alphas were such a pain in the ass sometimes.
I knew that, and still the butterflies in my stomach went wild when Liam placed the lanyard around my neck, lifting my ponytail out of it carefully so he didn’t accidentally pull on it. I looked up at him, mesmerized by how intent he was.
They may not know we were bonded yet, but they probably assumed we would be soon with the way he was looking at me like I was his whole world.
I smiled up at him despite how self-conscious I was about all the eyes on us. “Show me everything you built while we were apart. I want you to tell me everything I missed.”
