Rhett: Not that you have anything to worry about...but I’d love that.
I’d be happiest if she was here with me, and I could look after her, feed her whatever she’s craving and know that she’s safe. I know she loves her job, but things have changed. And she doesn’t need to work anymore.
I put my headphones on to block out the music and the loud moans from the party and go to bed.
And when I fall asleep, I dream of Con.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Con
“What kind of stuff goes on in the clubhouse?” I ask Cara when she comes over the next morning. I’d spent the morning chatting to Olivia on the phone, and only ended the call when Cara got here. We are planning on catching up soon and going out to lunch together.
Cara chokes on her hash brown. “Ummm.”
“And don’t censor for me at all,” I tell her.
She clears her throat. “I mean, there’s usually women there. Women who would do anything to be with the bikers, hoping to be an old lady. They like to hang around. And they have some wild parties where anything goes. You can’t be a prude if you’re going to go to them.”
“I see. Do you think I could live at the clubhouse?” I ask, gauging her reaction. “Rhett wants me to.”
Cara shrugs. “I think you could live there, if you don’t mind orgies.”
Now it’s my time to choke. “Do you think Rhett would cheat on me at these parties? I mean we’re not officially together, but we sorta are.”
She gives me a look. “You’re totally together and I don’t think so,” Cara says. “I mean, I thought he cheated on me, but turns out he didn’t. So...”
“I don’t know. How am I supposed to relax knowing that he’s at the clubhouse with beautiful women, some he must have already slept with?”
“You trust him,” she suggests.
“There was a party at the clubhouse last night,” I explain, taking a sip of my orange juice and leaning back in my seat. “And it’s obviously something they do a lot, and I don’t know how I should react.”
“You have to trust him, and your relationship,” she says, looking down at my stomach. “And you are pregnant with his child. He’d be a total asshole if he did.”
“Apparently men cheat on their pregnant partners the most,” I say in a dry tone. “I’ve read that somewhere before. It’s a thing.”
“I think you should just speak to him and tell him how you’re feeling,” she suggests, tone gentle. “Definitely talk to him. And I think you should go to the clubhouse and experience it for yourself. Meet the members. See if you can live with all of it.”
I nod. “You’re right, I should just go there. Maybe I’ll surprise him. Will you come with me? Random surprise road trip to see if my...can I even call him my man?”
“Safe to say he’s your man,” Cara adds. “And yeah, why not? I can come.”
“Really?”
“Sure. Fuck it. I’ll tell Decker I won’t be home until evening. I’ll call Clover and see if she wants to come, too.”
I grin.
Clover tells us she’ll meet us there. We pack up Cara’s car and then head to the Dragon’s Lair.
“Are we allowed to just walk in?” I ask Cara when we get there.
She laughs. “Hell yeah we are. This is our second home.”
We get out of the car and there are two men standing out the front next to their motorcycles. “Hey, Zeke,” Cara calls out. “Bear.”
“Cara, what a nice surprise,” Zeke purrs, checking her out.
