“No.”

“But you didn’t see anyone?”

“No. Just heard him.”

“While on the phone with Mr. Sloan? He just happened to call and show up at the right time, huh?”

“What are you saying?”

“He has good timing is all. Come on, I’m interested to hear his side of the story.”

Keaton shakes his head. “I don’t know who that character was. He was wearing a mask. His eyes, though, they seemed off. I don’t think the guy was stable. Could’ve been a druggie.”

Mom wraps an arm around my shoulder. “If Wyatt loves Denise, why send someone so unstable?”

“He’s unstable it sounds like. Any guy that keeps calling despite no one answering can’t seem to take a hint. It’s not safe for you to stay alone.” Daddy gives me a pointed look. “You need to move back into the main house.”

I look at my parents. “If they’ll go to the guest house, what makes you think they won’t go a few feet over?”

Keaton clears his throat and we all look over at him. He rubs the back of his neck. “I know better than to offer my place—even though I have amazing security. But we can request to have a police officer run checks more frequently by the guest house.”

I decide to stay where I am but ask for our neighborhood to be patrolled more continuously. I go back to school in a few weeks, and nobody will be there to protect me. I’m hoping they’ll make an arrest soon, so this will all be behind me, and I can enjoy the remainder of my winter break.
