“But hear me on this because it is most important. Be with her if that’s what you want. And if it is, then it just means adjustments inside the group, which, given the year of recovery and year of office duty, doesn’t really change all that much.” TB looked over at him with concern. “And if God would try to put through the final edict, you know we would help you two disappear, right?”
Waters felt that to his soul. They were willing to come between him and their boss? Just because he caught feelings?
TB broke the silence. ”Does she know about Sarah?”
“No. She saw the scars. I just told her that I’d been captured on a job.”
“You’ll need to tell her.”
“If I have to.”
“Tell her. She’s strong.” He smiled and smacked Waters on the arm. “Take care. And don’t use those all at once,” he joked with a head nod to the bag. “I told him to triple what he got, but they were out of your size.”
“Fuck you. How would you know what my size is?”
TB exited the jeep, leaned on the roof, and looked at him through the open door. “And Boss? She’s probably more than worth it.”
“She is. She’s fucking perfect,” he agreed, using her constant compliment to him. “But it would gut me to know that my life somehow makes hers impossible. It’s just not a good idea.”
“Well, you’ve got a number of weeks to figure that out. No need to make that decision now.” He closed the door, banged two times on the roof, and with that, he was gone from the Jeep and disappearing into the jungle.

MARCH 7TH
Kai
A hand touched the small of her back, and an insulated coffee mug came from behind her as lips softly brushed the back of her shoulder. Standing on the edge of the dock, Kai allowed herself a ghost of a smile. Waters came around the side of her and squatted to stare down past the water’s surface. “Good morning.”
“Morning,” he whispered with a glance in her direction. “Everybody good?”
Nodding, she sipped her Crankiness Bomb. “The stunt coordinator arrived and has all the guys demonstrating what you’ve taught them, so I thought I’d come down and supervise Vixen and Enigma.”
“How are the two lovebirds?”
“Tired. Happy. They should be up soon. I made them promise to do ten-minute check-ins because of Vixen’s ankle.”
“Mmm. And what about you? Are you tired? And happy?”
“I slept well. I could be happier,” she grouched.
“Salty today, are we?” Waters teased.
She winked at him.
He stood up next to her, his hands reaching around her waist to tag her hip and pull her close. “Patience,” he murmured with his warm breath in her ear.
“Remember how we discussed my patience problems?”
“I remember working on those patience problems last night. Sounds like someone needs a reminder.”
She gave him a hip check. “I’ll give you a reminder later as to why you never make a woman wait for anything.”
“Will it be a tongue-lashing?” he asked.
“Hmph.” She cast a sideways look out of the corner of her eye. “Heard you were on a road trip.”
“Mm-hmm.”
