“What is going on?” Millie asks wide-eyed.
“Cancel the rest of my day, Millie,” I order, and she nods once before leaving me alone. I grab my phone and call Hadley.
She answers on the third ring. “Hello?”
“Are you heading home?”
“Yes,” she answers softly and then sniffs. I can tell she’s been crying. Shit! “I’m taking the day off.”
“I understand.”
“And the days after that. I quit, Mr. Kyle.”
“You what?” No way. I can’t let her quit. I’m not done with her. I haven’t even started with her.
“I quit, Mr. Kyle. I have already called the temp agency, and they will be sending you a replacement by Monday. Goodbye, sir.”
“Hadley,” I bark out to a dial tone. She’s already hung up. I grab my suit jacket off the back of the chair and rush out. “Call me if they return, Millie,” I order and then storm out of my office.
Twenty minutes later, I pull up to the red brick building with the white awning—her apartment.
I bang on the door, and seconds later, it swings open. “What the …?” She stops when she sees me standing before her. My eyes look her up and down to see that she has already changed. Wearing a pink tank top and a pair of holey jeans, she’s let her blond hair down and put on her black-rimmed glasses, just making me want her even more. She looks delicious. And my cock hardens as my mouth starts to water. I’ve waited three months to get her alone outside of work. To get her under me. The need I have for her is more than anything else I’ve ever known.
I step inside and shut the door. She takes a step back as she sucks in a long breath. “Mr. Kyle—”
Her ringing cell cuts her off, and she rolls her eyes before walking over to her couch and picking it up. She frowns before she answers it. “Hello?” There’s a long pause before her eyes meet mine. “I accept,” she says slowly.
I walk over to her, and she pulls the cell from her ear and puts it on speakerphone. “Hadley?” I hear a man’s voice say her name.
“Yes.”
“Oh, thank God.” He sighs heavily, and my brows lift. Who the fuck is this? “I’ve been trying to get one single phone call since last night. I need you to help me.” She frowns, and he continues. “You work for a defense attorney, right? I need one.”
I take the phone from her hand, not knowing who this guy is, but I speak to him anyway. “Why do you need counsel?”
“Who is this?” he asks after a long second.
“Her boss. Aiden Kyle.”
“Mr. Kyle, I was arrested last night,” he says quickly.
I nod. “What is the charge?”
“Soliciting prostitutes.” I turn to face her, and her wide eyes meet mine.
“What?” she breathes in shock. “You were sleeping with prostitutes?” she asks, looking down at her phone in my hand.
“Well …” He sighs, and then I hear him sniff. “Mother is going to kill me.”
“I’m going to kill you,” she snaps. “I was arrested Wednesday for prostitution. And they just showed up at my office again.”
“Oh, my God, Hadley. I’m so sorry,” he cries. “I didn’t mean to …”
“Where are you?” she demands.
“I’m at the 9th district police department.”
“We’re on our way,” she snaps and then yanks the phone from my hand before pressing end.
