“Who was that?”

She looks up at me, her blue eyes narrowed in anger, and it turns me on. “That was my date from the other night. Nate. And it’s obvious that is why I got arrested. We’re going to go bail his ass out, and then he’s gonna prove I’m innocent,” she demands, yanking on my arm and dragging me out her door.

“We gotta take your Audi. Mine doesn’t have a back seat,” I tell her, and she nods. “And you can’t get out of the car.”

She opens her mouth to argue, but I step into her, and she closes it. “The police were just at the office looking for you. So I’m telling you right now, Hadley. You’re not leaving the fucking car. Understood?”

“Understood.”

CHAPTER TWELVE

HADLEY

“WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?” I yell at Nate as he sits in the back seat of my car. I have my seat belt on, but I’m turned around to face him while Aiden drives us.

He stares at me, his hair a disheveled mess and not in the hot kind of way. His eyes are red, and his cheeks wet. He’s been crying.

“I didn’t know she was a prostitute,” he says, wrapping his arms around his waist.

“When did you realize she wanted to get paid to suck your dick?” I snap.

“Hadley …” Aiden says my name as he places his hand on my shoulder. I shrug it off.

“We never discussed what would happen. I met her the same way I met you. But we didn’t even get through dinner. Nothing happened. I promise.” He wails as if I’m his mother about to beat his ass.

“What do you mean the same way you met her?” my boss asks him.

“On the dating app,” he answers him.

Mr. Kyle turns to look at me quickly before placing his eyes back on the road. “You met him through a dating app?”

I nod. “Trust me, I wish I would have never accepted his date request,” I spit out. How was I supposed to know that I was gonna go out with a man who the police were investigating? “You …”

Aiden growls. “You are on a dating app?” he asks again, his eyes narrowing at me for a quick second.

I plop down on my ass and look over at him. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

His eyes look me up and down, and then he shakes his head as if disgusted, before looking back at the road and switching lanes. “We’ll talk about it later.”

“We will not.” I toss over my shoulder as I move back to look over my seat at Nate and watch the tears run down his face.

His eyes go back and forth between Aiden and me. “Are you guys together?”

“No!” I answer, but Aiden stays quiet.

He lowers his eyes to his cell in his hands. “I need to call my mom,” he says softly.

I throw my hands up in the air. “I need this day to end.”

_____________

An hour later, we walk out of Nate’s mother’s house. It took us a while to explain the situation to her, and I hate how she cried when she thought he had slept with a prostitute. But I have to admit, she was super sweet. She made us cookies and lemonade. I’m pretty sure she’s the most understanding mother I’ve ever met. A part of me wished that I could see her again.

Aiden opens the passenger side door for me, and I climb in, not even bothering to argue that it’s my car. He gets in and puts the car in reverse, then throws it into drive, squealing the tires.

I ignore his fit. I have bigger things on my mind right now.

“Delete the app,” he orders, getting on the highway.
