Jonah whimpered when Felix drew away.

“See you at breakfast,” Felix said, opening the door. He shot a wink at Jonah before he strode through and Jonah was left standing there, bewildered and more than a little turned on.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Somehow, miraculously, Jonah made it through breakfast. He made it through video review of last night’s game and he said all the right things to his coaches.

He did a light workout and spent some time letting one of the athletic trainers poke and prod and pummel his tight left quad into submission.

He did it because he could compartmentalize things. Because he had to. Because he was going to lose his fucking mind if he didn’t.

But oh, shit, it was harder than ever.

Felix had kissed him!

Had kissed him until his toes curled and his skin felt shivery-hot. Had kissed him like he’d always been doing it. Like he knew just how to make Jonah go weak in the knees.

Like he wanted to kiss him again.

But there was no way Jonah could think about that when he needed to prepare for tomorrow’s game.

Jonah was used to forcing himself not to think about Felix because he couldn’t afford to be distracted during a game but this was that on a whole different level.

So he held it together until the team returned to the hotel that afternoon.

“Hey, a bunch of us are going to play blacklight mini-golf. Do you guys want to come?” Colton asked as they filed off the bus.

Jonah glanced over at Felix. He was staring intently at Jonah, one eyebrow lifted. His tongue darted out to wet his lips.

“You know, I think I could use a nap,” Jonah said, breath coming a little faster.

Felix nodded. “I’m good. I should probably, uh, call my sponsor.”

Matty eyed them skeptically. “Sure. And you’re not going to go to your room and fuck. Yeah, okay.”

“We’re not!” Jonah protested. He glanced over at Felix. “I mean …”

Felix just gave him a slow smile that made Jonah feel like someone had lit him on fire.

He forgot how goddamn charming Felix could be when he put his mind to it. He was smooth in a way Jonah would never be. Flirtatious and charming and goddamn it, suave.

It had been a long time since Jonah had seen him like this. That energy had been muted this season because his confidence had been shaken by the breakup and trip to rehab.

And, of course, Felix had only used it on Whitney when they were together. Unlike some hockey players Jonah knew, Felix was faithful to the women he dated.

Jonah certainly remembered what it had been like to watch Felix flirt with people in college or during the summers when he came home from Vancouver.

But Jonah had never had that charm turned on him before.

This was absolutely Felix confidently leading them down the path of questionable choices like he always did. But the one thing Jonah could say was that no matter how crazy Felix’s plans were, it was always worth the journey.

Jonah caught a glimpse of Dustin’s worried frown as he turned away.

Sorry, he mentally apologized to his captain. I know you’re worried about me but … but damn it I want this.

Jonah wanted to know what it would feel like to be the sole object of Felix’s attention.

His poor heart might be shredded after and maybe he’d need to take some time this summer to go away alone to lick his wounds and get over these feelings.
