“Glad it helped.” Felix shot him a faint smile, then ducked his head. “Okay, the driver should be coming around the corner now.”

As if on cue, a car appeared and Jonah’s shoulders sagged with relief. As worried as he was about his grandmother, he was so glad to be going home.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

It wasn’t until they pulled onto the street where Grandma Ji-min lived that Jonah realized what their destination was. “Oh, what are we doing here?”

Felix blinked at him. “Oh, shit. I—I don’t know. I guess I didn’t really think about it. It was in the app from earlier and I … We can have them go to our building—”

“Nah. It’s fine,” Jonah said with a shrug as the car glided up in front of her house. He reached for the door handle. “We can crash here. I’ll need to get her spare glasses and change of clothes before I go to the hospital in the morning anyway.”

“True. Sorry though. I wasn’t thinking,” Felix said.

“Seriously, it’s fine.” Jonah thanked the driver and got out of the car with a tired groan. “Don’t worry about it.”

“I guess I always think of this place as home anyway,” Felix said. He glanced down the street and Jonah winced, knowing Felix was thinking about his parents and how close they lived.

Felix’s face held that closed-off expression Jonah hated.

“Yeah, I get it,” Jonah said softly. “C’mon, let’s go in. I’m getting cold.”

He shivered and Felix’s expression lightened. “Well, if you weren’t wearing that tight polo and no jacket …”

“I look good in this!” Jonah protested, fishing his keys out of his pocket.

“Yeah, apparently. The nurse sure was eyeing you.”

Jonah huffed. “Don’t you start. I am not dating my grandmother’s ER nurse.”

“Why not?”

“It’s weird,” Jonah said as he unlocked the front door. “And he’s not really my type. He’s kinda short. Which is probably a dickish thing to say but … I like a guy to be taller than me.”

He steadfastly did not glance over at Felix who stood two inches taller than him. Damn him for having a type.

“That’s what I told Grandma Ji-min,” Felix said. “But she doesn’t listen.”

“Tell me something I don’t know,” Jonah said with a groan as he walked toward the kitchen. “She doesn’t communicate either. I can’t believe she didn’t tell me she was having heart issues!”

“The woman is nothing if not stubborn,” Felix said, flipping on the light and bathing the kitchen in a warm glow.

“Well, this time I am out-stubborning her. She will deal with this heart thing if it kills me.”

Felix snorted. “Good luck.”

“Oh no, you’re in this too,” Jonah said, turning to look at him. “Together, we’ll wear her down.”

“Oh good.” Felix grimaced. “That’ll be fun.”

But Jonah knew Felix would never leave it all on him.

He tucked his keys in his pocket, then paused. “Uhh, actually, I’m the idiot.”

“I know.” Felix patted his back. “This isn’t news.”

“Hey!” Jonah protested with a laugh. “I just mean that it actually made sense we came back here tonight. My car’s here.”

“Ohh, right.” Felix laughed too. “You parked in the garage when you got here?”
