“And I will too,” Felix promised. He reached out and took Jonah’s hand, squeezing it reassuringly.

Her expression was approving as it skimmed across their clasped hands. “At least I can go into this knowing you two will take care of each other if something goes wrong for me.”

“Of course we will,” Jonah said. He tightened his grip on Felix’s fingers, then let go to pass Felix a plate and fork. “We always have. But nothing’s going to go wrong.”

“I know you will.” Grandma Ji-min studied the two of them. “But I still feel much better now knowing you have each other this way. Knowing you will be building a life together the way Cho and I did.”

Felix caught a faint wince from Jonah that hopefully Grandma Ji-min didn’t see.

Did Jonah doubt that? Felix sighed internally. He probably did. Felix hated how tentative Jonah seemed about everything they did. How much he appeared ready for Felix to bail.

But could Felix really blame him? Jonah assumed Felix was still in this for the PR boost, Grandma Ji-min’s peace of mind, and support during Felix’s recovery.

Jonah had no idea how Felix truly felt.

Of course, Felix didn’t really know how Jonah felt either.

Lately, he’d started to wonder if Jonah felt the same way he did. That there was love beyond friendship growing between them. He’d seen how emotional Jonah had gotten at the sight of him wearing Grandpa Cho’s tie clip.

He’d noticed Jonah’s bright pleasure at the sight of the plush succulent and felt the tenderness of Jonah’s touch. He hoped that Jonah was beginning to think of him in that way. Beginning to want a future together.

Felix hoped that meant Jonah wanted what he wanted. But Felix couldn’t be sure.

He’d been so sure in the past that Whitney was on board with everything he had planned for their future and it turned out she didn’t feel the same at all.

Sure, he knew Jonah better than anyone. But what if he was wrong about the way he was reading things?

Besides, he still wasn’t sure if he trusted himself enough to make an unwavering commitment to a life with Jonah.

And even if he was sure, Felix had no idea when the right time was to talk to him about it.

Despite his certainty that he and Jonah could weather any difficulty in the long run, he loathed the idea of creating any awkwardness when they were in the midst of the playoffs.

Maybe after the postseason was over.

Felix rapped softly on wood so as not to jinx how well the team was doing so far.

Besides, why throw a wrench into things when they were going so well with Jonah?

“So, what did you heat up for lunch?” Felix asked, turning his attention to Jonah and Grandma Ji-min once again.

“Cajun shrimp tacos,” Jonah said, taking the lid off a dish and releasing fragrant steam.

“Oh yes. Natasha made those,” Grandma Ji-min explained. “She’s made many delicious things but this was my favorite.”

Felix assembled his taco, took a bite, and let out a pleased hum. “They are good, eh,” he agreed after he finished chewing.

“Yeah, these are great.” Jonah sighed happily and took another bite.

“That Charlie though,” Grandma Ji-min said with a smile. “He’s just wonderful. He came over one evening and cooked for me and talked my ear off about interior design. He just loves this house and it made me feel so close to Cho. He would have loved Charlie.”

Felix smiled back. “I like Charlie too. He certainly seems to make Dustin happy.”

She looked between Jonah and Felix. “It’s amazing what finding the right person can do for you.”

And Felix couldn’t argue with that.

He’d felt happier and more secure since he and Jonah had begun this fake relationship. And while the sex was an amazing bonus, that wasn’t even the biggest part of it.
